Oscar Dominguez and Justin Bergman

I thought svb announced he would NOT attend camps but hoped to make selection nonetheless?

He did, but if I understand correctly, he and Johan had a talk and he (SVB) had a change of heart...at least that's what I understood from the "Shane is back in the Cup" thread....

I read on FB that Shane did not attend the boot camp in Iowa (Justin did btw) and even went as far as to try to form a mutiny against Johan and He, Billy and Dennis did not attend the camp in Iowa. It wasn't met with the solidarity that he was hoping for. Then, during the CSI events in Vegas, he was spotted having dinner with Johan and Jeremy, then by some miracle, his schedule changed and he was on board with the boot camp idea, and back in the final 8. Justin did not attend the tournaments, or boot camp in Vegas, and that is when he was removed from consideration for the final 8. I don't know for sure, but if these guys are required to foot the bill for their expenses to attend all of these boot camps and go to Russia later this year, no wonder a lot of them are not making the commitment. Maybe Matchroom should post up the expenses for those hand picked players by the coach to earn their spot on to the team, them maybe the best players will not be forced to choose between eating and paying their bills or traveling around the country chasing a small purse ($10,000 or $20,000 is small in the grand scheme of things). Especially by some that have already experienced the thrill of being on the Mosconi Cup team and representing your country. Just my $0.02

Good points, but I would not call 10/20k necessarily small, how many other tourneys pay that much, for a few games of pool?

I mean, if you make the team, you are guaranteed a minimum of 10k. If you spend 2k on expenses for bootcamp/tourneys, you are still up 8k at minimum. Then you would have to compare that with monies you may earn in place of the bootcamps....

So thinking outside the box, We have family friends that we stay with in Augusta every year for the Masters. According to them, several of the amateurs, or even lesser known pro golfers sometimes have "host" families that put them up and feed them for the week of the Master's. These host families are volunteers , chamber of Commerce maybe?, but that has to take a pretty substantial financial burden from the golfers. Could that work with pool tourneys as well?

Hahahahaha.
Good one.

If I was in the top eight in the USA, I would not go to boot camp.
Expenses are going to be more than two Gs....
...and you might not get picked.

If Matchroom was footing the bill....different story.

Johan ought to swallow his pride like he did with Shane, and invite Justin to replace Dennis.

A year ago, Johann failed to name Bergman, America's best tactical player who played well in the 2016 Mosconi Cup, to the team and Team USA was whitewashed, in part due to poor tactical play. Will this mistake be repeated?

SVB is America's best, but Bergman and the semi-retired Dechaine are definitely 2A and 2B. A repeat of this mistake could earn Johann a few votes for Mosconi MVP ... for Europe!

Tell us how you really feel Stu!
To see someone like you, with all due respect, come out so strongly about the way Team USA is being chosen this year is an eye opener for sure.
My observations about Justin are that he may well be the best American player under pressure that we have. I'm not so sure about Dechaine, who I've seen crack under the pressure of the MC more than once. As far as Shane is concerned, who knows what he will do. Last year he pretty much bottomed out, throwing away match after match.

Would you let any of these guys in your house? Lolol

A few years ago, somebody formed some kind of outfit for the purpose of housing pool players. They said they had a lot of volunteers willing to put them up in lots of areas. Never heard another word about it after that and i assume it petered out.

I had an opportunity to let a Player stay at my place once. The guy was always broke and Im not sure he even had a permanent home. I had a nice place with an extra room and my biggest fear was that I'd never get rid of him so i passed.

The whole "boot camp" concept was major silliness from the get-go.

There's actually a way to handle it that would have worked.

Not worked as in guarantee a victory for the US, but worked in the sense that the players attended would have gained something (mostly intangible).

As it's played out, however, "major silliness" is probably the right way to describe things.
