It looks like Ronnie O'sullivan is not playing the King of the Hill 8-ball tournament. That means there is a spot open for a player in the selection of 150.

I think it should be a European, like Ronnie, and who better to pick then Alex Lely who is current European 8-ball champion (with a field that had all the top European players). Alex also won the European 9-ball championships and is a member of this years mosconi cup (see: www.mosconicup.com).

In 2003 he won the unofficial world 8-ball championships in Fujairah (the tournament that is now the WPA 8-ball world championship). He collected one kilogram of gold as a first prize.

HE SHOULD BE IN THE KING OF THE HILL KEVIN!!

Lely would be a superb choice.

He is playing in the finals of the Premier Snooker League in the UK, and yes, it is a better payday than $6,200, nearer to $75,000 if he manages to win the title.

Me. I've got no credentials, but I think I'd look okay on TV. It is televised, isn't it?

So it's a worse payday then. Because you are comparing 1st place on the Snooker Event to LAST place on the IPT tour. If Ronnie managed to win the IPT event he gets $200,000, alot more then the snooker event. If he manages to get 2nd he gets $100,000, still more then the snooker events 1st place. If he manages 3rd he gets $70,000 nearly as much as 1st in the snooker event.

The IPT event is ALOT better money then the snooker event. Clearly Ronnie is scared and does not think he has what it takes to win.

The question is whether Ronnie is now out of the IPT. I think it is a requirement that all members of the IPT showed up at the King of the Hill whether they were playing or not and Ronnie was even in the event and is now passing on it. This should be grounds for removal from the tour IMO and it will cost Ronnie alot more then this first event, he will probably NEVER be a member of the IPT now. Getting picked in the first year is a huge advantage in that you dont have to qualify and Ronnie is snubbing the IPT from playing snooker instead of the King of the Hill.

Replace him with Alex Pagulayan if he is willing to commit to the tour, I dont care if he sent a application in late, if he sent one at all then get the current most successful pool player in the world and the most entertaining pool player must be a part of this tour. Especially if you are replacing such a draw as Ronnie, you need someone big to fill those shoes.

Lol, ok...

There is NO way he will place 3rd if he was to play the IPT event, he just hasn't got any experience under his belt yet.

He is a big favourite to win the finals of the Snooker League, pocketing $75,000.

Scared? No, he just knows where he can pick up the most money.

Yes, the IPT event of course is a lot more money, but being realistic, he knows that he will not exactly be placing high in the IPT event, and $6,200 really is pocket money to him.

You also win $2,000 per frame and another $2,000 per century you make, so it is a lot more than $75,000 than he could potentially win playing the finals in Manchester.

Why isn't he playing? Must be a pretty good reason to walk away from a guaranteed $6200 payout.
It's loose change to Ronnie. He's a multi-millionaire. He has $7M in career prize money alone.

Couldnt resist.

I doubt that Ronnie is not playing because he is scared. He has nothing to be scared about. It's a game with balls and he is one of the best artists in that realm in the entire world. Although he probably would not win the IPT I wouldn't count out a very high placement simply due to his incredible acumen. More likely, Ronnie is aquiescing to his management team and sponsors who will get far more out of his participation in the Snooker League finals than out of the IPT.

John

I'm inclined to agree with you here, John.

The premier league started 15. september. Its the playoffs (semi+final) that collides with the king of the hill. There was never really any doubt he would play in the league this year as well as its one of his favourite snookerevents. Why he was listed for the king of the hill I don't know. Maybe he wanted something to do if he didn't qualify for the playoffs.

Moneywise he will get $22000 for showing up and $89000 if he should win the two matches so I would say he has better odds for a better payday than if he played the IPT tourney.

I don't see Ronnie O'Sullivan or Jimmy White for that matter (if he should qualify for the league playoffs) being dumped by the IPT for not showing up in Orlando. Theire two of the most popular cueartists in UK and I would think IPT wants them onboard to sell their product to UK.

The potential loss of prize money on the IPT tour for the next 2 years could be significant if he is replaced and would make his snooker winnings from this championship seem paltry. Setting a precedent and letting him play in future events when he has had ample warning would cause a lot of ill will, especially in light of them standing firm on Alex because of his late application, and also because there are a lot of us players that aren't even in this tournament flying in from everywhere without even a shot at getting paid. If WE don't show up, we would not have the luxury of playing in future events. So Ronnie is not being dumped by the IPT, Ronnie is dumping them.

I like the idea of Lely getting the nod, he isn't well known over here but has had a great year in Europe. Other players that should garner consideration include Danny Basavich, Marcus Chamat, and Santos Sambajon. So many good players and so little spots, that's why I can't wait till January to see all the players in action not just a select few!
