O'Sullivan's Quest

Ronnie O'Sullivan's impact on the world of pool could be greater than expected if the amount of effort he is putting is anything to go by.
Yesterday he spent over ten hours on the practice table, clocking off around 11pm. Then, at the unearthly pool time of 10am today, he was back in action.
No calls, no interruptions, as he picks the brains of his opponents.
Anthony Ginn, Kevin Smith and Kevin Huw may not be world beaters but they have all had World Championship experience and a lot of racks and accumulated knowledge behind them.

The World's No1 ranked snooker play has a thirst to learn and seems to have found a new motivation.

Be afraid, be very afraid!

He has a reserved seat in the history and NO ONE can take that away.

This is great to hear. I can't wait for the buzz in the build up to his first tournament appearances.

I would like to hear from his practice partners some analysis of his abilities on the pool table so far.

I can't wait to see him in action. Given the effort he's putting in, this means he takes it seriously and that it's not a walk in the park. Very good. He should be fine. Tell him that he has to practice his break, not just the hard one, but the one the gets the head ball in the side pocket while still breaking up the pack.

And if he needs help in 8-ball strategy, he should read Colin's thread asking about people's beliefs.

When I heard Ronnie is going to play I though he is going to get his behind whooped badly. Now when I hear he is taking things seriously, practising with an agenda, I have second thoughts. Is he going to play competitive 8-ball after a couple of months worth of practice (when the event is anyway ?) is another thing. Take a look at Tony Drago for instance, he has put a lot of effort in pool throughout the latest years and he is playing it competitively for sure.

Looking forward to Ronnie's first 8-ball tournament matches ! And I bet it's not a catastrophy to him if he doesn't make it in the pool scene. He's there just to have fun, I guess.

Has Ronnie bought some pool cues yet? :)

I think he should be able to play pool with a snooker cue. I personally feel it's more difficult to use a pool cue to play snooker than vice versa.

Hey Pro9dg !

Please post some updates on Ronnie's progress as you seem to be a little bit closer to him there than us here. If he matches up with the local pool experts let us know. I don't care what pool/snooker fanatics say about the match results, just the info on Ronnie is appreciated ! Thanks.

Hi Mikko
Ronnie spent almost 20 hours on a pool table last weekend. Q-Stix has several good players based there and he spent much of the the time learning shots and cue ball reaction. On Saturday he played 9 Ball but on Sunday he switched to 8 Ball. By the end of the weekend he was running racks regularly.

He has suspended action for two weeks due to snooker committments but he plans to be on the pool table every day when he returns. The confidence he exudes on a snooker table is not there yet and he does not expect to set the world on fire in his early days. But I noticed that he has a respect for the game that he did not have when he played in the Mosconi Cup and the Masters all those years ago. That is good!

Incredible. It really is happening.

Seems like Ronnie was right to turn down all those invitations to WPC in previous years. He either wants to put on a decent show or no show at all.

Is he going to play just IPT or WPA tournaments as well, like World's for 9ball and 8ball? Hopefully he'll still play snooker.
