I was told years ago that Mike Segal puts half a tip of outside on all cut shots. I was also told that Buddy Hall calls it "helping english" which I thought was cool and I was bought in after trying it and seeing the benefits. However. I should have been told that not ALL shots on the nine ball should have outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I spent years shooting shots near the rail and really long shots with english. I don't believe this is the time for that. I finally figured out and now I use the outside about 90% of the time on the nine ball cut shots.
Hope this saves someone some grief who is just starting to use outside after reading this thread.
P.S. because of that muscle memory I developed on those rail shots with english I can now come with some shots when I need to so it's not all bad.
