Over 300 pool apps on iOS devices

I just did a search for "billiards" on the Apple App store from my iPhone today for the hell of it, and was shocked how many apps there were. I think like 360 or so. I went through about 150 of them, and at least half were legitimate pool apps. Most of them I'd say some sort of game simulator. Just surprised me how many there were. I wonder how they are selling (some paid, some free). I don't think a real pool player made hardly any of them though, they looked more like arcade type stuff.

Anyway, just food for thought. I'm not really a gamer, so not going to mess around with them much. But maybe someone will find a good app to share...

A lot of them are essentially knockoffs intended to be ad delivery systems. But some gems I think. I am off IOS at the moment so I don't remember the ones I liked.

I don't have any of the simulator/game apps, but there a few pool iOS apps that I use and like:

Break speed calculator. Self-explanatory. If you don't have this one, get it. I use it ALL the time. You can even use it to (roughly) gauge break speed on recorded or live videos.

Billiards Buddy. Designed to keep track of scores in a 14.1 match.

GoPlayPool. Various pool-related features. Tournament calendar, pool hall finder, news, stories, etc. I don't use this one much, but I like having it handy on my iPhone.

DrawShot. Great app. Designed by an active AZB member. Easy way to diagram table layouts, arrows, ghost balls, etc.

Official BCA Rules. Good to have them handy.

Bank shot calculator. A little rough, and I don't really use it, but I supported it because I like the idea.

Is there any apps that make this site easier? Like say too post pics ect?

I use Tapatalk for 99% of my activity in the AZB forums. Very easy to stay up to date in the latest threads, edit posts, post pictures, find threads you've participated in, etc.

However, there are many useful features of the AZB website that are not available in Tapatalk.

this is why nobody is playing pool anymore, they are playing with their phones, of course i say this as i play with my computer.....

Best iphone/ipad pool game by far is Steve Davis Pool Star. It's equivalent for android is Pool Bar HD. Both have physics and graphics which are near perfect and are lightyears ahead of the rest.

cool thanks, i'll check it out,

Pool Break Pro for Android

Pool Break Pro is fantastic for Android, not sure if it is available on iOS. There is also a 'Lite' version [free] with fewer games available. Great physics, some ridiculous English/angle combinations possible, but all-in-all a very solid game.

If you want to learn something, play Carom against the top-level AI and get run out 10-0. Ha.

apps

Ones I have:

BSC Lite - Bank shot calculator free version
3BALLS Billiards - 3 Cushion shots
Billiards Buddy - scoring 14.1
Break Speed -
Pool Rules - BCA League
Shot Pad - Drill Layouts
Draw Shot - Just got it.

I remember playing virtual pool on a computer about 20 years ago. Somehow it's not as good today as it was then, but it's still pretty good.

I'm waiting for someone to eventually write an aiming app for the Google Glass that's currently being tested.

This topic suddenly got me wondering how great will it be if there's an app similar to the blue book of cues! It's definitely going to get me distracted from work everyday

the best simulator on the market is virtual pool 4 http://www.celeris.com/virtual_pool_4_windows-download.html

On my iPhone5 I have ProPool2012 (game simulator). It's a great way to kill time. The only complaints I have is that balls come off the cushions too fast (ball rattles out of a pocket then travels two diamonds away) and that draw/follow aren't as sensitive as they should be (forcefollow from two diamonds away only results in about 3 diamonds of follow even when using nearly full force on the shot). So, too much of one (cushions) and too little of another (draw/follow).

But, it's free and everything else about it is very good.

I also have BreakSpeed (addicted to it for a week, then it lost its novelty) and Billiard Rules (doesn't do any good only because my playing partners don't care about no stinkin' rules).

I downloaded Draw Shot but haven't had any time to learn it.

I didn't know there was a free Lite version of BankShotCalculator. I'll give it a try.

I've played several pool game apps, they all seem the same to me. But I do agree, the BCA rules app is a must have
