I missed where you posted the testimonials from your students? And the list of pros you have instructed? Where is that?
I posted testimonials on other threads from
instructors and master instructors from all certifying bodies on threads this week (including BCA) in response to just that sort of question. Are you baiting me to post them again so that you can accuse me again? Since you've said I blow my horn as recently as this morning, why on earth would I post
more testimonials?
And from someone who's "read" so many of my pages, I'm surprised. If you'd read them carefully you'd probably say I have too many comments from
students on those pages praising me as an instructor!
I've already addressed your point regarding not posting
pro lists. It's unprofessional and dare I say it? Boastful.
Rather than post a pro list, I'd rather send you names of pros and pro teachers I know who will all say, "Matt is a good Christian, honest, and a thoughtful teacher with his students." Would that help?
Hitlerian? Is that even a word? Are you sure you didn't want to say Hitleresque? And if so in what way?
Hitlerian - Totalitarian mixed with Hitleresque.
I know that AZB has many abusive and abrasive posters. Never said that it doesn't. That has nothing to do with the fact that you tout yourself as a super instructor who is better than most other instructors.
That is untrue. I've never said that on any thread, in my book or at AZ or anywhere else. I will repeat I am an excellent instructor and I did share with my wife recently that I've reached one of my life goals--to be one of the finest pool instructors and to work amongst other fine instructors. But the concept that I say I'm
better than most instructors grates against my soul.
I am someone who was a sinner and was saved by the grace of Jesus Christ. I'm not better than anyone else.
Roadie, I'd like to share a thought with you and I hope you'll receive it. Humility is virtuous and you've extolled it to me frequently this week. But false humility comes when someone who wins Olympic gold says, "Gosh, no, I didn't work hard and I know nothing about my sport. I just got lucky." False humility is a kind of reverse pride.
I'm a good billiards teacher. I have arrived at the point in my career where to say differently would be false humility.
If you wanted to debate further, you might ask me, "How do you think that, Matt?" or "How are you a good teacher?" and then look for flaws in my reasoning rather than repeat the same groundless attacks.
I treat my students in a Christian manner. I guarantee in advance that they will improve and play better, and learn more. I then back that with the pledge of free lessons and free resources should they feel they haven't (an empty promise since everyone is satisfied with my help). I'm not lying, this is true.
I also say, "I'm not a chiropractor and you won't see me five times a week for life. I'll help you with concepts and fundamentals and teach you self-diagnosis. When we part, you'll be on a virtuous cycle of improvement." If I was really arrogant, I'd say probably my students don't come to AZ because they are so awesome at pool--but that would be amazingly arrogant to say, wouldn't it? Just kidding, bro.
I back that I will follow-up with more help in person or by e-mail and phone. We all know the temporary effects of a fun lesson where we play better for a few days and then it goes away. I back my work to help the lessons stick.
I give free lessons to people in need and enjoy teaching more than playing. I love to teach and help others.
**What are you looking for from me, Roadie?**
You critique my style and find it grating. I've been selected from among many Guides before at About national meetings for being engaging and writing in innovative ways. I'm not going to write much differently going forward.
You say I'm not humble. If I was arrogant, I would have stopped responding to you days ago at all. Instead, I've asked you to debate aim but you seem upset that I won't debate CTE because I think it can be a good system.
What do you want from me? I will respond as honestly as I can when you tell me. We can then let the forum readers judge my responses.
And frankly, you have a great eye for details. Even though your phenolic accusation was off base--I didn't say they were banned and I didn't say they weren't--a student asked me in a question and I discussed the merits of the tips--I could use someone like you to proofread my work. I'd like to invite you to post to my site and even write articles for it. Why not?
Thank you.
