Owner wants me to run his pool hall while hes on vaca

I shoot at my local pool hall about 3x a week. The owner on saturday asked me if I could run his pool hall while he goes away on vacation for a month. He said I can take whatever I want from the bar for free also. He will pay me 2k upon returning. Hes a middle aged korean dude..how cool is this? The place is at least 3,000 square feet
 
He will probably have someone watching you while you run his business for a month.....I know I would anyway. Do a good job for him and you will have a friend for life.

If I were the owner and knew you looked at it from that perspective, I would get
someone else to do it.

He is entrusting you to watch his back. To make sure he does not get ripped off
in the numerous ways that can happen.
 
Well he said once in awhile his partner will drop in to make sure everything is running smooth. But other than that I am on my own..he said to just call him if I have any questions. Should be a nice experience..
 
I didn't mean it in that way...I am an honest guy and will make sure to take full responsibility. I was trying to make a point that it's not going to be a difficult labor intensive 2K.

Plus ask experienced TD to organise some local tourneys, stream it and get some publicity for the room and help boost sales for the owner. Show him some nice sales numbers and who knows he may make you his part time manager/partner:D
 
This is seriously not a bad idea...but it can either turn out great...or he may just get pissed because I technically don't have the authority to do such a thing.
 
Yea I figured this as well...I am gonna make a contract that states that 2K will be paid, and that in the even that an unforeseen occurrence happens ( like a hold up), that I am not responsible. Can you think of anything else?
 
Do you have any experience running a business? If it was me I wouldn't drink a drop when I was there, If your working and looking after a business is working its not right to drink on the job. I would ask if its alright to have a tournament when hes gone, before you have it. If you go to this hall a lot its in your best intrest to do a good job and make the owner happy, it may lead to a full time job or at least him asking you again if he goes away. You dont want him to have a sour taste after your deal is done. Good luck and I hope you take this very serious as this is this mans livelihood your incharge of.
 
It's a trap!! On a serious note I would take this opportunity to bust your *ss, don't drink, and provide great customer service IF you want to possibly do this more often and get paid some cheese for your time. Don't use it as a screw off time while running the business unless you don't care about it being a one time gig.
 
Since the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill, this is a great opportunity for you. Have you ever wanted your own business? Or work in the billiard business. Two grand is not a lot of money when you find out just how many hours you have to put in. Easy work? Maybe not so. Having a business just sucks all the time out of a day.

With a bar there is a lot of room for skimming and you can bet the owner knows what's up. Be honest, work hard and this is the equivalent of two years of business school. You can build a good reputation right now. There's no price on that. Please don't waste this being a pool player looking for a score.

Do you have a liquor license to serve alcohol?

What kind of hours does he wants you to be there?

I'm assuming he also has other employees?
 
No im the only person. The place is relatively slow except after around 8pm and on weekends. Opens at 3pm and closes after the last customer leaves which can be anywhere between 9pm-1am

Not as long as the tables don't need to be brushed, the floor vacuumed, bathrooms cleaned, coolers restocked, food and beverage served and stuff like that :)
