I'm looking at QC tool posts for my mid American lathe. I've searched these forums and I'm still not sure what the difference is between Oxa and AXA. Can someone explain it to me? Will an AXA work on a taig based lathe?

0xa is 60% the size of AXA. AXA is kinda chunky on a Taig based system.

I'm not a CM, more like a tinkerer' with years of experience in shops.
The mini quick change tool posts are a joke compared to the AXA or OXA.
The AXA is a beast of a tool. Don't mess with a piston type tool post. With the AXA wedge type I can mount the tool lower than its own footprint so there is no way the tool post to be to big for any lathe, if the center bolt is to big all you'll have to do is quick make a adapter for mounting to a small T-slot of the compound.
I choose the BOSTAR over the SHARS and I'm pleased as punch.
I got mine from CDCO machinery Corp out of Schaumburg IL. http://cdcotools.com
Although you might save a buck or two buying on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/271390053510

She can drop it down low and tight.<~ not possible with a piston type

Although if you must have a smaller QCTP you should go with mini OXA weave type mini tool post set url]http://cdcotools.com[/url].

You should never show that picture again. It's just wrong on every point.

Thanks. I'm in Pittsburgh and I saw that a company on eBay was offering the AXA out of Pittsburgh. I thought I could just swing by and pick one up. But it looks like the OXA is the way to go.

I can't imagine an AXA size on a taig based lathe. I have the smaller one (forget it's nomenclature) on mine and sometimes it feels too big.

I've also used the high end Aloris and Dorion sets at the day job for years where I didn't pay for them. At home I bought the $130 eBay AXA sets (for the metal lathe not the taig based). That's about a $400 savings. IMO, the cheap eBay ones are plenty good enough.

I prefer the Italian type over the Wedge type toolposts. They may be harder to find in the USA though. I have the small wedge type, but really don't like it compared to the Italian type. In saying that, any adjstable tool post is way better than a block that needs shims.

AXA is very big for a Taig crosslide, and it's more chunky than you need.
Choose the wedge type, much better repeatability.
