Pacman - 10 Ball World Cup - starts on Feb 15

Either no concern or it was intentional, either way it's wrong to not respect a long running event. This is where I think the WPA who is sanctioning
the event should have stepped in. Not only to protect a long standing event, but also to make sure that a WPA
event doesn't over lap with another event so that the players who have few events to play in would be able to play in both. If the WPA was looking
out for the players and promoters as an organization such as this should, they wouldn't let this happen.

Manny was already holding the event regardless. The WPA saw the opportunity to actually hold a 10b WC this year and took it. It sucks for CSI, but good for players who now have a choice in events to attend. I would imagine a bunch of Asian players will look at the lower travel costs and less visa hassles, and take the W10B route.

American players should be happy. Easier competition at the USBTC.

Maybe if Manny had checked a calendar first he wouldn't be holding a 10 ball tournament without one of the best 10 ball players in the world.

I'm just sayin'...

like he cares, this is a hobby for him, he's earned over a quarter billion dollars and may likely be the wealthiest person ever to promote pool

The WPA wouldn't step in as the Reno events aren't WPA sanctioned.

So just how is it good for the players they now have to make a choice which event to play in, instead of being able to play in both
at a time when there are fewer and fewer events to start with. Sorry but that doesn't sound better to me.

It means less entries to the BB=less purse money. Also, if the BB is PPV fewer big name players means less interest to buy stream. This is not a good thing for CSI. Johnnyt

They don't step in and try and move the long standing CSI event they step in and move the WPA sanctioned event. That is not to say if some
other event that is not long standing decides to put up dates that are already in place for a WPA event that they wouldn't be in the right to
approach that new promoter and explain that if they in the future want the WPA to look out for them they need to work with the WPA.

Who cares if the Reno events aren't WPA sanctioned events the WPA should do it to help the sport and help the struggling promoters and
players who have less and less events to play in each year.

Think about it, if there are fewer and fewer players because they eventually don't have enough events to play in to exist any longer, where
are they (WPA) going to get the Pro players to fill their WPA events. Buy allowing events to overlap in the end they are only hurting the
advancement of the sport, hurting the players, and eventually cutting their own throat.

I doubt Manny Paquiao or his people care to move the event. The WPA knows there is unlikely to be another high prize 10-ball event this year. They saw an opportunity and took it.

That's right. Manny already had this 3rd MP Cup scheduled in Feb some months ago. He planned to have 2 such events per year since the success of the 1st and 2nd last year
He would go ahead as 3rd MP Cup if WPA had not approached him to convert to W10B
Do not think it is deliberate on his part. Of his non- boxing activities , pool is not his top priority, basketball is .
IMHO , Manny sets dates according to his boxing schedule - if the May fight with Floyd Mayweather or a replacement fight is on he needs couple of months to prepare. He was asked by Charlie Rose how long he needs to prepare for fight and he said couple of months or so. After Feb , he is probably off to training camp and inaccessible

Why would Pacman be concerned with other events? Hundreds of players around the world not playing in the USA or Europe tour, what do you want them to do? This is a good thing to have many events so players can choose where to go.

I agree. This will also give a chance for the next generation of Philippine players and unknown monsters to win big money. Most of them cannot get a visa to go abroad, so this is the next best thing.

Instead of criticizing him, we should be thankful that he is funding this tournament.

Where can I find info on the streaming for this event???

I'm sorry but there is no way this gets written off as "good for pool."

Maybe not all players abroad can get here but from my count, there were more international players in Reno last year than are signed up this year.

Either Manny and the WPA didn't care enough to check the calendar or it was an intentional snub. Either way, it's representative of a professional pool industry that will have no one but itself to blame for it's demise if that happens.

What some people may miss is that attending events like the USBTC isn't just about a payday. They also increase the visibility of professional pool. I wasn't nearly as interested in professional players before I attended Reno as a spectator (one of very few) last year. The more professionals who go to that event the more fans of professional pool there will be to buy streaming, the products the pro players endorse and so on. If professional pool has any chance the different entities need to start coordinating better.

And who knows, one of us amateurs might surprise them in Reno. (probably not)

Eleven Filipino pool sharks, five of them former world champions, have been seeded to the main draw of the Fourth World Pool Association 10-Ball championship, which opens shop today at the SM General Santos City.

World 9-Ball kingpin of 1999 and 2004 8-Ball champ Efren "Bata" Reyes, will lead their country's hopefuls in the 12-day series that will see 128 of the planet's top cue artists battling brains and wits for the $300,000 total purse, put up by eight-division world boxing champion and Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao, $40,000 of which goes to the winners of the singles and doubles events each.

Carrying the country's colors, besides Reyes, are Dennis Orcullo, Carlo Biado, Warren Kiamco, teener Raymundo Faraon and Jeffrey Ignacio, who all earned their seedings as among the top 24 world-ranked campaigners given the privilege.

Like Reyes, Francisco "Django" Bustamante, Ronnie Alcano and Alex Pagulayan have earned their tickets as wild cards being former world titleholders. Pagulayan, a Fil-Canadaian, will be carrying Canada's colors in the tournament.

Joining them in the tournament proper are Antonio Gabica, Lee Van Corteza, Ramil Gallego and Antonio Gabica, who, although no longer ranked in the Wolrld Pool Association rating, still belongs to the host country's top campaigners and money-earners, making them categorized also as wild cards.

Non-ranking artists who are nominated by their respective countries as still their top players are seeded in the championships, organized by BobSlu Foundation and sanctioned by WPA.

Several more Filipinos, who will emerged from a two-day qualifying phase today and tomorrow, are expected to make it to the tournament proper set Feb. 17-21.

The MP International 10-Ball doubles event will follow from Feb. 22-26, also at the activity center of SM GenSan, according to tournament directress Ishi Caparrras.

"We expect some 15 to 20 Filipinos to vie for honors and money because that's precisely the reason why CongManny is bankrolling the championships, to give as many Filipinos the chance to earn money and at the same time gain fame," Ms. Caparras said.

Taiwanese Cahng Yu Lung, currently ranked first by the WPA leads the top 24 given automatic tickets to the main draw.

Among those in the list are former no. 1 Niels Feijen of The Netherlands, Shane Van Boening of the United States, Li Hewen of China, familiars faces, Mikka Immonen, 2008 8-Ball kingpin Ralf Souquet, Darren Appleton of Great Britain and Huidji See of Holland, the last to win the 10-Ball tilt four years.

Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight belt-holder, meanwhile, welcomed all the foreign participants to the country, egging them to enjoy the world famous Filipino hospitality as well as GenSan's ideal climate.

"Welcome to the Philippines and enjhoy our people's hospitality and pleasant scenery, consider as one of the best in the world to those who regularly come here," Pacquiao said.

"To the first timers, we, in the organizing committee, assure you that you will be enjoying an experience You have never tasted before," he added.

Appleton, the 2012 World 9-Ball champion, actually, won the 10-Ball world's first staging held in Manila in 2008, followed by Immonen the following year, meaning the event's first three editions had been hosted by the Philippines.
