Pagulyan Carbon Fiber shaft?

He is nuts to price the shaft any higher then the Mezz Ignite, or the Triple 60 Whyte Carbon. Lol, even the Fedor Gorst Whyte Carbon is $670, but it is an inch longer, and has a longer taper, for anyone who might think that is an upgrade, or anyone who just wants to try Fedor's special spec shaft.
I have the FG57 shaft. It's awesome. Yes, it's expensive, but you can get additional joint inserts for different pin types, so you only have to buy 1 shaft, and have it fit on all of your cues.

what it means is they don't sell tubes to other makers. whether they own the factory or they use an exclusive outsourcer is info you can't get. there are multiple asian tube makers that smaller outfits buy from. they are not buying same tubes as becue/cuetec/pred/whyte, these are exclusive to that brand. All those are filament wound and that process requires a very expensive initial investment compared to flag-wrapped tubes like virtually all the others use. Not real sure on Mezz or Longoni, could be in-house or thru a supplier.

Way off topic, but I recently seen a Lambros CF shaft for sale. The special Lambros pilot is Wood. Maybe he cores it with maple to give it more of a wood like hit. No idea, but Lambros is the last cue maker that I ever thought woukd come out with a CF shaft. I bet he somehow made his own tube though, because the taper looked like a Lambros type of taper to me.

eventually, all cue makers will offer CF shaft as an option or as a standard or even the only option. It's the future.

Seriously doubt a small maker like Lambros is making his own tubes. He's having a tube specialist make them.

Really surprised that Schon and Joss aren't offering a cf shaft. IMO they'd sell more cues if they did.

Pagulayan and company's marketing strategy riffs off it’s the Indian and not the arrow. Theirs is it’s the Buzz and not the arrow.

Their lack of description of how their carbon fiber shaft is better than other carbon fiber shafts and Pagulayan’s posts refusing to speak about the shaft confirms AZers’ it’s the Indian and not the arrow understanding that shaft differences aren’t important. All that is needed is assurance the shaft is not defective and the company legitimate. Pagulayan has that and no more shaft description necessary.

Pagulayan’s buzz is the marketing strategy: price it so high to get attention; price it so high that customers figure it is high quality; show it in polished and beautiful advertisements, and associate the cue with a professional pool player. That is what is necessary to sell cue parts.

I’m more surprised that Schon don’t offer an extension solution.
From player’s choice they have become a non important brand.
I know that their bumper and weight bolt are all glued but there has to be a solution ot at least change the construction for new cues.

I hardly use my Schon cues because of that. I do have a slip-on extension but it’s not as good as a screw in extension that feels part of the cue.

All the other top production cues have it.

Or maybe it’s in a process of patenting it

AZ poster BlokID makes excellent extensions that work with Schon. I got one for my girlfriend’s cue. Basically he has a custom bumper that replaces the Schon bumper (using a screw into the weight bolt like the Schon bumper) and then his extension screws into the custom bumper. Works very well.

He also made one for a buddy of mine who has an old Mezz.

There is actually quite a bit of information on his website about the shaft and why they say it’s different. A custom taper, a different approach to achieving lower deflection, using wood to anchor the joint not plastic etc. They justify the price because it’s custom built in their workshop in Canada.

Alex has also announced that they will be making a “production” CF shaft (with different construction methods) in Asia and selling it for less (I can’t remember what he said exactly, maybe something about it being mid-tier pricing).

I have not hit with his new shaft. People who have done so at the Derby and the CSI expo seem to like it. Whether it is “worth” it can’t say - I too remain doubtful that I’d think it worth spending that much on a CF shaft, but I will certainly want to try one if and when I get a chance.

Correction, there is more information on that shaft than I had thought:
i) wood instead of a plastic sleeve at collar;
ii) doesn't thin the front end, or thin the ferrule or hollow out the front end to achieve lower deflection;
iii) gets lower deflection via "mass distribution, vibration management, and front-end response tuning" and "zero-deflection foam";
iv) the zero-deflection foam allows a stronger ferrule than others; and
v) a "pristine" taper (sounds like something less than pro taper).

I’ve tried to get images of how the bumper and extension looks but couldn’t get any.
I also tried to remove the bumper of one of my Schons and it was impossible. So I just dropped it… started using my Jacoby instead

It's worked for Harley Davidson for many years!

They aren't making the tubes themselves. I'd bet pretty good on that. Buying tubes and using their own completion method i'll go for. Meucci has also used wood inserts to tune the feel/sound of cf shafts. 800bux is still pure insanity.
