Painpools Workmanship

Based on the pictures, the work is sub-par, plain and simple...don't need to see it in person. As a customer I would not be satisfied either.

As an aside....it's really a shame at how this thread panned out. The refinish work could have simply been re-done to correct this, and people didn't have to knock Russ's workmanship over this. Who knows how the cue looked when it was new. That's not the issue here.

Also, the issue with the signature is almost a non-issue. Falsification is a no-go option. Where is the credibility here, people? Even without the signature, there's probably little difference in what the cue is worth anyway.

Pictures tell more of a story than what meets the eye! The pictures of the wrap tell me Aaron has not yet learned (or is ignoring the fact) that a leather or skin wrap cut square on the end (which is the only way it's going to be cut), will not mate up well if the transition of the finish to the wrap groove is not reasonably square also. It's not even necessary to look close. The finish was sprayed so thick that a radius was formed where the finish meets the wrap groove and no attempt to remove the excess finish was made. Attempt to match the wrap material up with a condition like that and this is what you get.

As for the "dog ear" on the wrap. The wrap material moved when the cut was made, and that's a fact!!! As for the seam: I have no earthly idea how a seam can be cut that badly. Did the lizard skin shrink? No it did not!

Scratches in the finish & the Ivory: #1, Ivory does not have the appearance of having cracks, it has grain. There's a huge difference in appearance!

What difference does it make how the scratches in or under the finish came to be? They are there and they are not acceptable. I will concede that they could have been there when the cue was originally built, however, Aaron posted a picture of the cue showing he removed the original finish. He also stated he found a deposit of epoxy which verifies that fact. If the cue had been sanded properly at that point, any scratches that were in the cue originally would have been removed. If they were too deep to remove, then Aaron as a "professional", should have notified Sore. Additionally, how does one explain the pin holes in the finish? Were they there when the cue was originally built?

PPG is one of the better materials out there, but, it does take some getting used to. After a cue is sprayed with it, if you take a piece of sandpaper to it without cleaning it first, YOU WILL GET SCRATCHES. It's caused by the solvents that have risen to the surface after the clear has cured. They tend to roll up under the sandpaper and will produce a scratch somewhat similar to what #220 sandpaper will leave. That's a fact folks, take it or leave it!

You certainly do "Tell It Like It Is". And so do pictures in "Macro Mode" which even picks up what the eye cannot see.

What I see is a cue that was stripped with a heavy grit, not necessarily in a uniform technique. The subsequent finer grits removed most but not the deepest of the original scratches, so what you are seeing are the deepest grooves. No matter who put them there, they should have been removed in a refinish. They are very obvious.

I also possibly see sanding between heavy clear coats, shooting in a dusty environment or outdoors, trapping more and more debris in the paint in layers. It's possible the pin holes are solvent pop caused by not allowing enough drying time between clear coats, or re-shooting a skinned over coat that hasn't completely flashed. Could be contaminants too. Whatever, they should not be there.

The cue just needs a re-wrap and a refinish. Again.

Russ Espiritu Cues

I have been dealing with Russ Espiritu and Glen DeBella of Omni Cues since 1999. I have purchased 11 of his cues ranging in price from $300 to $1,200 wholesale. I have never had a problem with any of them and will continue to deal with them both. The man does excellant work and his prices are very reasonable. I have said this once and I will say it again. I think you get more cue for the dollar from Russ that any other cuemaker out there and I do not believe you will ever get ripped off by either of them.

ITS LIKE CRAIG SAID and I refer all my work to JERRY RAUENZAHN
and thanks for letting me mention Jerry again!
He tells you!

I had an Espiritu that had a less than stellar finish on it along with raised rings...don't know why he can't get it together sometimes....however I've never seen anything that bad from Russ...

As for Espirtu's product quality I have seen some real gems out there both good and bad. Unfortunately, I have seen 5X more of the bad cues than the good. Most of the bad ones that I have seen have ranged from less than a year old to 5 years old. Almost all had numerous imperfections in the clear coats. And most were dust and peeling issues in the clear coat. I personally feel most if not all the errors in this transaction minus the "NOT THAT TERRIBLE WRAP JOB" to be original flaws from Espiritu.

Everyone needs to take a couple deep breathes here. Stand back for a few minutes and ask yourself DID PAIN JUST HELP TO SHOW THE ORIGINAL CUE MAKER'S FLAWS? I believe so. Mr. Sore I believe you really enjoy your Espiritu cue. Consider yourself on the lower percentage of people out there. Most people treat Espiritu's work like a HOT POTATOE trying to see how fast they can unload it onto someone else.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$Good luck to all with this transaction, and hope you all come to grips with reality. For less than $200 you have a cue with a 10 times better finish than Espiritu could ever produce.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

What is that again? 10 time better? Is he some kind of shill for Aron?

...Nick, Craig didn't say that, Snap9 did.
Thought you should know, didn't want you "misquoting" anyone.:p

Isn't this over yet?

I can't believe the discussion has spiraled downwards to a point where people are discussing the quality of Espiritu cues and his finishes.

Okay, let's just say that Espiritu finishes are not that good - shouldn't the refinished have 'corrected' the problems and not make the problems more visible? Isn't this why you refinish a cue in the first place - to correct flaws?

And a "NOT THAT TERRIBLE WRAP JOB" should never be the acceptable standard by a consumer.

The pictures are posted and people will take away from it what they will.

(I'm actually waiting for ChrisOnline's review of PainPools work as I have dealt with him before and believe he will be honest in his assessment.)

IMHO, it won't be over until Aaron issues an apology to Sore for both his workmanship errors and his abusive comments. He should be man enough to stand up and accept that he turned out a sub-standard job.

That might help to regain enough credibility to begin re-building his reputation.

i wish both parties the best in the future.

arcticmonkey <---- eagerly awaiting the public apology

Sore,

The last pics make your claim of substandard work credible. If you would of addressed Aaron with them this drama would have been avoided. I, NEVER took exception to your claim, I do feel claims of this nature need to be PROVEN. Which, assuming you recvd the cue in its current condition , you've done. Apprx. 5 days after the fact.

On more than one occasion you invited me to come to the land of corn to inspect the cue. This confused me----does it make sense for me to look at it if you thought I was one of Aaron's boyz? If you still want me to look at it send it to the pool hall we owned and and still have interest in. I'll Pm you the address if you want. Be sure to insure it because this is an "old-fashioned" type room with a lot of gangstas,, thieves, bikers, etc. Did you know that bikers have done the majority of wetwork for orgainized crime since the 70's? Just learned that on the DISCOVERY channel.

There are a few other things you said that I don't understand or take exception to.

1) What is an "internet tough guy"?
a) someone that gives bads$$ keyboard?
b)someone that intimidates with a keyboard?
c)someone that beats people up with a keyboard?
d) all of the above

2) In the same post (#168) you mentioned something about personal attacks.
After reviewing my posts I can't find evidence of any. I'm not the one who called you an:
ungratfull a$$
idiot
I didn't say you suck or did I intimate that you mutilated your own cue.

Take a few hours and carefully review the thread, I think you'll come to the same conclusions.

What does "I was just entertained on your stake in this" mean?? I'm too archaic to get up to speed on current slang. Help me out here. Ref your post #133.

In a recent post you or your wife mentioned something about "stringing him up" might be an option in addition to confronting him about this. I would suggest that spending many years incarcerated over a pool cue refinish doesn't make sense.

When you started the thread you said the finish had "tons of dirt" under it.
How is that possible......the butt probably doesn't weigh more that 17oz.

I would not have typed this and you would not have read it if you wouldn't have hit the "send" button for post # 216.

Can this thread now die gracefully?

No, not until Sore and Russ get their just apologies from Nick and the others who have made various demeaning remarks.:( :(

i will post the details of my experience.. of course, i do not have my cue as of yet.. and like i told aaron.. i am in no hurry for it.. and i dont want it rushed and if he has other obligations before mine, i expect him to take his time and take care of what he has to do first.. so, far , i have had no problems or complaints on the whole transaction.. aaron is keeping me quite updated with the job..
