Palm wood

I just got a piece of palm wood from a local supplier. The price was right, so I figuered I'd try it. I can't find much info about it, like drying, stability, etc. I have a couple of pics, I believe it to be red palm, but the supplier wasn't sure, they had ordered a load for a customer 3 yrs ago and he only took some of it. How long does this stuff need to set before it's ready to cut? It's been air dried for 3 years. Should it be cored? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

Dave, palm likes to move alot. It is also very light. You will want to core it. Also be careful it splinters easy and you may get a splinter in you. I have hear rumors that sand get stuck in the tree durring to growing process and that the sand will dull your tools. Who knows. Good luck.

Jim.

This goes against everything you've ever heard. When I use Palm wood soak the outside in water and freez it. The wood is easier to work. The other option is preasure treat.

Definately core it, A real joy to finish too.
that's for sureeeeeeeeeeee
the first time i used black palm, i thought i would neverrrrrrrrrr get the finish done right
learned something from that experience
second time, with cue at about 20thou over i gobbed 20 minute finish cure epoxy on it, let dry a day ot two, hit it again, let dry a day or two,
then took the final pass
cut the epoxy smooth as a baby's butt and ready to clear
