I got this cue the other day, its in great shape. Model 4 3nd catalog, I had wrong model down, thanks for the correction. best part is the 4un played extra shafts.
The shafts where bought at one time, over 20 years ago. They came from Joe Salazar, bought in Colombia SC at Grady"s Legends of One Pocket Tournament. Cue was bought back in the early 90"s and has seen very little play. All original.

I like this one, although I don't know if I will keep it or not. Time will tell. I shoot with a house cue so this may be a bit much for me.

Thanks for looking, Enjoy!

1) player 11.95 mm 28 7/8
2) 14.42 mm 28 1/2
3) 14.29 mm 28 1/2
4) 13.70 mm 29 3/8
5) 13.75 mm 29 3/8

On a few of the photo's I used the HD enhance button in photobucket just to show the cue the way I see it here.

That bad boy right there, is the NUTZ!!! Got me scheming about trade offers... Something tells me this one might require some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Actually...........

Thanks for sharing. You've got a nice cue there and the extra shafts are a bonus, although they are big boys. +14 wow. I have a Model A with a 14mm shaft and that is big.

I always find the Palmer house cue conversions interesting because they were made in various colors with different color rings in the butt and various color wraps, some multi-stage.

Your cue however is actually a 3rd Catalog Model 4. The ring configuration, and stamped butt were not used during 2nd Catalog production. Model A's had three wide rings and solid white collars.

If you're interested, here is some info on some of the house cue conversions from palmercollector.com

Thank you for the correction, I changed it in the thread, can't the title though.
One thing I love about this place, very smart cue folks.

[QUOTEAbove, the 3rd Catalog cues have this joint configuration. The piloted part of the shaft is just a brass insert with no wooden tenon or shoulder.
][/QUOTE]
The extra shafts have wood on the inserts.

I can't tell but the ferrules on the 4 extra shafts look like Ivory. I have bought a bunch of cues over the years, but never had shafts this thick, even on break shafts. Since they are short I am assuming they where made with one pocket and 3 cushion in mind.
I have looked around and found some shafts that look close, but not the same pearl rings. Seem may be hard to find. I have never owned a Palmer so not really sure where to look. More than likely I will end up moving this one, I don't need all the shafts, but hate really to split them up. Like I said, don't even know if they are hard to find or even a value on them or the whole package. Not real sure what I will do, just seemed like a neat old cue and I couldn't walk away without getting it.
Thank you again,
Steve

Why are those shafts so thick ? That is way cool and rare ......

What do you think it is worth

Biggest shafts I have seen.
No clue on what its worth. Been told not that much (not as much as I hoped..lol.), taking it out tonight to test drive it, depending on how it handle will determine what I do with it. And Chris, if we made our shafts that fat you wouldn't of had to set up that taper lathe... take a dowel and stick a ferrule on one end. haha

There was a trend in the 70's for a couple of years where 14.1 players were experimenting with 14mm shafts. I've even seen Balabushkas with 14mm shafts.

Yep, I've also seen a lot of old '70s Josswest (Bill Stoud) cues with 14mm shafts.

Maybe they made them that way so the owner of the cue could have them turned to the diameter of his or her preference... just a thought. Still applies to any buyer today too. Common sense just kicked in.

Great cue, back in the day, we used huge cue balls, really huge and heavy. 14mm was a pretty common shaft size.
