When I posted about my Balsis cue, Fast and loose posed a great response about how under appreciated Paradise was. So that prompted me to look through all our pic's and put together a tribute section. We did it for South West when Jerry was inducted into the ACA and it received a very positive response, hopefully this will be the same.

Enjoy...

Very well done.

I think it is smart business for dealers to have informational sections about the various collectible cues. It stimulates interest in collecting. It also helps collectors to ID the cues, which is especially important in the case of Paradise, where there are so few catalogs and information. I would like to see it for the Balabushka's and Szamboti's as well although I know it's a lot of work.

I was surprised at the amount of traffic and e-mails I get about my home- made site, especially when I first developed it.

Awesome Section

Joe,
That Is Awesome. It Is Nice To See These Guys Being Appreciated. You Need To Keep Pushing Mark To Share The "special" Cues He Has. I'm Sure There Are Some Mind Blowing Cues Hidden In That Collection(what's The Point Of Collecting If You Don't Share What You Have)

Marcus,
Some of the cues I am hoping to add are Jimmy Caras' Palmer with a Balabushka wrap, an ebony / ebony Spain blanked Paradise diamond king and the Eddie Taylor Diamond King, and a few others

Those Cues Would Be Very Nice To See. Sounds Like There Is Some Very Rare Stuff Hidden Deep In That Collection. Now You Need To Make A Trip Up There With Me So I Can See Those And His Tascarellas In Person.

Well if you saw the Miz Tascarella and Liscotti's, you would be looking for an ATM faster than you can say ATM...

Joe

We Both Know Your Correct About That. I Would Make Sure My Pockets Were Fat If That Oppourtunity Came About. I Would Love To See Those Tascarellas. I Enjoy Seeing All Of Pete's Work. I Wish I Had Some More Free Time, I Need To Call Him And Get Some Work Done. I Don't Want To Call And Then Have To Call Him Back 7 Times Because I Have Other Stuff Goin On.

Great Job

Great job on the 'tribute' page. I'm new to cue collecting and I think the history/lineage of cuemakers his fascinating but hard to learn if you're new. I was told the 3rd Blue Book is supposed to have some info on what makers worked together or who there apprentices were. Appreciate you guys taking the time to write it all up and get the pics together. Thanks!

Maybe it's because you love cues, what does one have to do with the other???

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT OTHER COLLECTORS, BUT IN MY CASE I ENJOY SHARING MY COLLECTION. IN MY OPINION MY COLLECTION IS TO BE SHARED NOT JUST COLLECT DUST IN A SAFE SOMEWHERE. IT WOULD BE LIKE ME NOT TAKING MY SHOW CARS TO SHOWS, AND JUST LEAVING THEM IN THE GARAGE. JUST MY FEELINGS ON THE SUBJECT. THERE ARE ALOT OF COLLECTORS THAT DON'T SHOW ANYONE.

You asked what the point was, I pointed out that maybe someone would collect because they just love cues and not to show them off. I asked what do you think one had to do with the other, you ignored me and talked about cars. The difference is (in case you really don't know) is that there are people who think there is nothing wrong with stealing designs. they see a cue they like and they print out a picture and go to some lesser known cuemaker who doesn't have the skill to come up with anything original or who is just to lazy to try, but has bought the technology to copy it. These people aren't willing to pay the originator of the cue for his design time or his name so they find these other guys who will do the cue for a fraction of the cost. This isn't a attempt to rehash the debate over stolen designs, just another point of view. As far as cars go it's nothing close to cues, cues are art, Cars aren't. If you own a perfect 1968 Z28 there are hundreds out there that are perfect, there were thousands made, and bringing one back to original or keeping it that way is something to show off and be proud of. If you have a perfect 52 Topps Mantle RC or a mint #1 Spidey these are things to show off, people can't replicate them, but in this day and age I can't figure out any reason (other then to show off) why someone would share a 1 of a kind cue.

if you bought just for your own enjoyment and you know you have the original what would it matter to you if someone copied it?

It matters because you paid a premium for the fact that it was/is a one of a kind. Just because you don't brag about them or show them off doesn't mean you ant them to diminish in value. Sometimes the reason you like something is because it's unique. The point is it's yours and you have the right to do what you like with it. Maybe you bought a 1 of a kind as an investment, keeping it one of a kind helps it's investment value.

do you throw a way the one of a kind cues you might have because someone makes a copy?

Nope, I don't think you would, but why should you be happy about it and why would you increase the chance of it happening?

do they bring you less enjoyment?

Read above, I say yes if you bought it because it was unique or if you bought it and paid a premium for it due to the fact that it was a rare cue.

most people like to share things that bring them enjoyment to possibly bring enjoyment to others.

Please be smart enough to speak for yourself. Saying most people is just stupid. MOST people do not share private collections, I can point to the top 10 collectors in the world and MOST people have no idea what they own and have never seen their cues. Dr. Wu being the example rather then the rule, and please keep in mind he has most the cues for sale. Lucky has a site with cues for sale, but those aren't his collection, you will never see his collection.

why pay big bucks for a cue if it can be easily copied?

You just aren't informed enough to know that in this day and age most designs can easily be copied with the aid of computers, the exception is the artists like TW or Schick & Reyes, guys who do things by hand that requires great skill. But for the most part the execution isn't as hard as the design, and stealing that is where the problem lies

why would a cue maker take the time to come up with original designs if they can easily be copied?

Because they are artists and it's what they do, they expect that other artist will also have the pride to want to create something original. they don't go in thinking "I'd better not make something nice or people will copy it" In this day of computer CNC lathes and programs they can take almost any cue and scan it and the computer will work out how to do the copy.

if everybody thought like you there would not be any art to enjoy.

If everyone thought like me there wouldn't be any trouble, because I wouldn't see a design and say I need to have that, but not at that price and hunt down a new guy to make it for fractions of what the original cost. If everyone thought like me sharing your cues online would be something that everyone would do without fear that one day they'd see the cue for sale on E-bay for $300. All this wisdom comes with time, it's all things you may learn over time, you just have no clue because you have a limited time in his hobby. Some day you'll see a cue you paid $7,500 for on E-bay for $175 with decals, the difference is you'll be happy because it's just what your fragile ego strives for. I unlike you have nothing to worry about though Jeff, I don't have fancy cues like you that people may some day copy, I can only dream to have something worth copying.

if you consider the top 10 collectors in the world MOST people then i guess you might be right.

I could have said the top 100, most of which we don't even know. I'm not trying to generalize, just asking you not to make ignorant sweeping generalizations.

but judging by posts on azb i would say most people share their collections.

So what you're asking us to believe is that most collectors are here on AZ?? LOL You do realize that this is a forum for showing cues and that explains to most inteligent people why most here do it.

but since you are striving to be a part of the top 10

I don't believe I've ever said anything to lead you to believe this, I know you've been trying to stalk but none of what you've tried to dig up factors in on me or what I do. I don't comment on what I do as far as collecting cues goes all your innuendos are just spectulation and misinformation.

i guess you follow that crowd. as far as doc wu is concerned i guess you mean the exception to the rule. i imagine another benefit to keeping collections private (ego wise) would be that some people might think you actually have a lot more than you do. keep following the top 10 crowd Jimbo and i'll keep doin whatever the hell i wanna!

I never told you what to do, you can do whatever it is you want to do and do it for whatever reasons you want. Just stop trying to push your ways on others. I don't follow any crowd, I don't worry what others will think of me. You are the big time cue know it all and collector, not me. Keep posting all your cue pics, I love looking at them and dream to one day own some as nice.

I have a friend here in Albany that not only has a paradise and gus szamboti but he still has the original drawings and boxes they were delivered in. His paradise has the plastic see thru window with his name inside it. Hopefully someday he might think nice of me and leave them both to me....yeah right......lololol........................mike

JOE,
I'M DOING ALL I CAN TO GET OUT OF HERE, AND YOU COME HERE FOR VACATION? JUST DON'T STAY TO LONG, OR YOU'LL REALIZE THERE ISN'T ANYTHING TO DO.

under appreciated

Thanks for letting us have a look at those old Palmers and Paradise cues. I really think another under appreciated cuemaker was Verl Horn. His cues just don't bring the money I think they should IMHO. Look forward to seeing more of the Paradise cues my friend that passed had one of the Diamond King cues he bought from Paradise and his son has it now.
