Hi Ted,

That's a trusty old Model 9 Palmer from their first line. Here's the catalog:

The Model 9 was a very popular cue, circa mid 1960's. I have a few of them myself. Here are some pics of mine:

They didn't come with a rubber bumper, but I think it's a good idea having one. This cue will clean up nicely and I like your choice of Paul Rubino to work on it for you. That is a Titlist forearm but I can't tell what kind of wood is in the points, possibly rosewood.

It's great to see these old Palmer's come back to life.

great catalog pics, I'll take the number "2" please

This cue is 59" long, there is a warp at the handle not more than 1/8", the bumper looks original, and it is probably a Titilist as the points are uneven and they resemble a Titilist. The cue needs some work but it plays great. The butt is almost as fat as the Rambows you see in my Avatar. I traded a new Dale Perry hustler for this cue, we were both happy with the deal. The Dale Perry was a "1 of 1"-LOL, actually a very good cue.

Thanks
Ted

I'm convinced the point wood is/was Granadillo (Granadeeyo)

Botanical Name:Platymiscum yucatanum
Local Names: Kira, Trebol, Ormigia
Habitat: Mexico & Central America

Heavy, very dense, machines well, polishes/finishes well. I've been using a piece of it as a mallett for over 8 years and it's still intact.

I should take a video of the handle wobbling like you did. My video wouldn't get the laughs that yours did.

What type of wood did tellitlikeitis say it was?

Sounds right. Back in these early days, when Palmer was building cues, they were converting them from old house cues. So was George Balabushka, by the way. Later on they had the volume and connections to buy blanks from Brunswick.

Some of them run the full length under the wrap, others are cut and a maple handle is installed. If I am replacing a wrap, I like to cut it off myself to see the construction technique used. Also, if the points are sharp where they end under the wrap, you know it was converted from a cue that is quite a bit older, possibly even from the 1930's and 1940's.

This cue restored. Thanks Ted for selling it to me. After restoration it sure is nice.
