Pasadena TX Junior Program Update

Time really flies. This is the beginning of the 4th year of the junior billiards program at my school. This year I have 60 kids enrolled in the program. I have had many kids approach me in the hall wanting to know if we were going to do it again this year. I had one kid show me a video on his phone of him making the money ball on the break which was cool for me to see.

I was hoping the Deer Park TX chamber was going to step in and help me with a room, but that never panned out. My ultimate goal is to finance a room that is more friendly to junior players. I think there are able donors out there and one day I will meet the right person and it will happen.

One of my other projects continues to flourish. My Youtube channel "forcefollow" is approaching 7 million views and I have over 7800 subscribers. This summer I felt like I was close to getting some substantial support to improve on that project, but it has yet to materialize.

Another project that is coming together is a billiards ladder for the Houston area. I have plenty of interested players and I think it has a real chance of taking off.

Time will tell......

The program that Marcus has put together is admirable, and he has had help from a few AzBr's, not the least of which was RKC. I will be coming back to his school, to help the kids again, on Wed. 9/19. I think this program is one that should serve as a model for schools across the country. Great job Marcus! See you in less than two weeks.

Marcus gives unselfishly, and I am sure the only return he get is a thank you once in a while. The sad thing is in many other places their are Boys & Gwirlz Clubs, YMCA’s, YWCA’s, PAL Cubs back east that have Pool Table.

Kids who would get the bug if someone made it fun for them, show how the game is played, teaching basic, and building on those basics. Volunteer a few hours a month to come in and teach. The PAY would be ZERO, the reward would be Un-measurable.

When I was trying to do something with the Phoenix Area Boys & Girls Club, I put the word out to the local Pool Player to get hold of the Club Executive Director, she had volunteer opportunities all over the city at any of the clubs under her umbrella.

One Pool player did volunteer for several months, at one of the Phoenix area Boys & Girls Clubs, and than stopped.

People talk about how to save fool, suggestion 1 follow Marcus’s foot steps.

I want a room that has no booze or smoke. This means a room that doesn't turn a profit. I do think it could be a room that could break even. At the rate that some guys spend money on non profit making tournaments and tours I think someone will one day see the value in backing such a room.

To everyone else thanks for the replies.

I have had a really positive development that might put me closer to my goal.

Stay tuned....

well marcus i am very intersted in this idea...i would love to have a pool room in my home town....since i drive 15 minutes to go to fast eddies to play....it would be awesome to see a pool room in deer park....

I would like for the room to be multidiscipline, which means carom and snooker also. Houston is a big place with retail and office space that has been vacant for many years. I just need to network in the right direction.

Great work you're doing!

I've really enjoyed your youtube videos and learned a lot. You have a very good way of explaining concepts and actions.

Best of luck.

BTW, CococoloCowboy -- please change your sig pic. It's expanding the entire page where we have to scroll just to read a sentence.

Great job Sir, I follow you on youtube as well. I love working with kids myself. It does give you a joy that nothing else can.:thumbup:

Marcus awesome job in Houston! We need more like you in the country! If you would please contact Samm Vidal Claramunt (Diep) with the BEF www.billiardeducation.org so she can get info from you to put on BEF website. We need to show programs like yours to the country so we can get more people involved.

Thanks

Marcus,

Have you looked into using an after hours club/teen billiard parlor that's usually closed during the day. The owner could expect to benefit when these kids get to be 18 to 21 and need a place to hang out in the evenings. Maybe an idea for an entrepreneur.
