Patent Violation? One Piece Tip + Ferrule

I heard from a reputable source that the one piece Tip and ferrule is patented by Mr. Mike Gulyassy.. I also heard that they can be produced if and only if you pay the man $500 a year.. Wondering if anyone has any other information. I was going to start producing Radial Lam Break Shafts & Or Cues, but paused when I heard about this..

How are so many people producing these?? I cant imagine everyone is doing it correctly..

I know for a fact at least one ebayer producing just the component does not have the rights on them..

I would try to get in contact with Mike and talk with him about it. He posts here, I'm pretty sure.

Heck, it might be less than 500 dollars a year. I think it would be worth the call/email.

There were tons of patents over the years dealing with cues. Most were various ways of trying to keep the tip on!

It is civil law and the damages they could prove would be so remarkably low, I.E. You put on 50 tip ferrule combos with a value of maybe $1200.00, any suit would be thrown out as frivolous. He could not even get a lawyer to represent him. I know you will get a lot of people who think he has something but he is trying to protect something that is essentially worthless. His whole patent was a fools venture.

Patents require the owner to protect them. His patent and product is so worthless at no point would it ever be worth the cost trying to protect. AND, if he was actually dumb enough to try and lost, as he would. He would get whacked with a counter suit for the other guys cost. It is an unenforceable patent due to the products value. The first time a lawyer asked what his damages were and how much has he personally made off the item in say the last two years, the judge would fall off the bench laughing. Do you suppose he has made say $500,000. off the ferrules themselves to date? Because that is what we are talking about. The cost of discovery for one case alone would cost him more then he has made since he has been in business. Actually, who cares, they are not that good anyway. Let him have them. Just make your own, better version yourself. What you are talking about here is a concept, not a product. The same end result can be achieved in many different ways.
Kind of like laundry detergent, they all clean.

I absolutely agree with you. A patent has to be enforced by it's owner or it has no value, and if it's not worth it to enforce, then why go through the hassle in the first place.

There is also a presupposing that a violation of his patent would have even taken place, should someone put on a version of a ferrule without a tip on a shaft. That is what it is, a ferrule without a tip, nothing really new. It would be completely up to him to prove it. I don't believe he could prove such a violation of his patent. The concept is too general and has been done by the way, long before he got his patent for his version. And that is all it is, his version of a long used concept back to the Pipe jump cues some 20 years ago.
