Patrick Custom Cues

I am a sucker for great wood. I believe Plain Janes are one of the best ways to show off great wood. Judging from this cue Doug Patrick shares my opinion.

Doug is a local cue maker. I live west of St. Louis and Doug's shop is in Granite City, IL just east of St. Louis. I have been watching Doug's cues here at AZB for a while. When he put this up for sale I jumped on it.

I have quite a few PJ's I can choose from to play with. I am playing with this Patrick Custom Cue. The balance and feedback are near perfect for my tastes. I could say it is "solid" or "it hits a ton" but it seems that most cues reviewed here do. What I can say is, with this cue I can really feel the shot. That means added confidence for me.

He does make some great cues.

Thank you Jim for writing this review! Yes I am a sucker for beautiful woods also.!

Thanks measureman also! Did you get your new cue yet?

No Doug i'm still debating. The last one i bought was a mistake and now i'm a little gunshy.
You know years ago (i stopped playing in 1991 just started again) no internet and limited cues to buy. There were a number of custom makers but for the average ($) guy it was pretty much Mali,Viking,Meucci and Helmstetter/Adam or you could step up to a Schon. So you bought price point and looks. Now the choices are overwelming.Just to make people cringe i could have bought a Zsamboti in mid 80s 2 shaft 59"
basic cue for $425.00 in New Jersey brand new hand delivered by Gus.

I dont blame you on the gunshy thing at all! Now everyone and there brother builds cues. There is several production makers now compared to years ago. I know you would like to have that day back in the 80's when you could have bought the Zsamboti. You probably would have bought quit a few of them. I know I would have. I saw that the Joss you was looking at didnt have a quick release. I would probably go with that over the McD. The owner of the pool room where my shop is at has a Joss there (5/16/14 pin) that plays really good for a production cue. When you get a chance pm me the model number of the Joss you are looking at. I will check and see how much I can get it for.

I think anyone would be happy with a custom from Doug. He works at a very high standard and is capable of providing a very nice hitting, well balanced, and aesthetically pleasing cue - be it a plain jane or a pointed/veneered cue w/ inlays. And he'll provide that result with a number of joint pins & styles.
Measureman - it's a shame you can't work out a basic pj from Doug, but I'd definitley agree that you'll do well to steer clear of the quick release type joints. Only the top tier makers are capable of keeping them fron sucking a lot of the life right out of the feel of a cue, imho.
(5/16-14 piloted for me - and Szamboti, Bushka, Searing, Black Boar, Mottey...)

I have to agree with Doug in that there are so many choices out there right now and everybody and thier broher are making them . It is very easy to get stuck with a lemon from a new up and coming builder and then they will not stand behind them because they don't really have the money to...

Doug Patrick is not a new cue maker he has been doing this for quite awhile and he really puts out a very nice cue. His cues have a great hit and as you can see from the cue above he uses some very nice woods. And I can certainly vouch for how well he stands behind his product there are no problems there at all. I would highly recommend Doug and his work to anyone in the market for a new cue ... He is in my opinion one of the best to deal with and certainly going places... Doug knows how to treat and take care of his customers.

Hi all,
i agree with all of you, Doug Patrick Custom Cue is indeed a great one. I have been searching for a great & suitable playing cue for a long time and finally landed upon buying Patrick's cue from a cue collector here in Germany. I get even more excited playing with this cue because of its excellent hit.
This cue ends up to be my playing cue.

In addition, i've ordered 2 extra new shafts directly from Doug and requested to have the best taper that he has even though there are a handful of great cue makers here in Germany.

Doug, you will be the one that i will contact if i need a new cue in the future.

Best regards from Germany,

Jansen
