I think Steve wins the prize. I have to admit I didn't think of that. I hope on a real table I would have. If the 4 in the upper left corner isn't too extreme of a shot (again, easier to tell in real life) then it's pretty natural to go from the 4 to the 1, to the 2 and then stun over for the break shot on the 3. I much prefer Steve's though.
I didn't read all of that thread til after this thread was posted. Thought if part 2 was good and had to follow pattern 1 nicely.
The pattern I saw just jumped right out at me. Sometimes it's not always the conventional positioned breakshots that work best. And from here I think it's most advantageous to play it as I described. Much easier to control the outcome.
