Paul Drexler opinion and reputation?

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new here and haven't really done much posting, mostly reading and researching. I have just been wondering one thing about Mr. Drexler who operates out of Connecticut (PFDStudios). I've seen in some threads here and on some other places online that some people hold him in the highest regard and some people dislike him very much. I don't know much about cuemaking, but I feel like there is something that I am missing. I see his cues and they look of the highest quality, yet he is never mentioned as a great cuemaker. He doesn't seem to get much respect around here, as if theres some bias against him. I also read somewhere that he had some shady business practices in the past when Verl Horn was alive. What do you guys think about PFDstudios? Please answer honestly, I'm just a young guy trying to get some perspective, as I find it difficult to find old threads that may have the information I am looking for. Thanks.
 
I don't know Paul from Adam, but he took the time to speak with me on the phone for quite some time last weekend.

He seemed very personable, friendly and knowledgeable.
 
Paul will soon be inducted into the New England Pool and Billiard Hall Of Fame. He is going in as both a cue maker and a person. I'm proud to call him a friend.
 
tell you this much I just picked up an second hand cue of his off ebay(great deal too)and emailed him for info on it and I had a response within 12hrs MAX...I was very impressed by that. And he was very helpful to all my questions, and eventually will be sending the cue to him to refinish.

Not to mention I hear he is well known for getting his work done on time, which speaks volumes to me.

Paul builds great playing cues in my opinion. I owned one several years ago and was very pleased with its beauty and performance.

Paul has superb materials, especially exotic wood, and he has made many daring and exciting designs. His cue has graced the cover of the Blue Book of Cue Values and he has made cues for famous clients (Vince McMahon) as well as top pros. (Larry Lisciotti, Santos Sambajon...)

Paul is a forceful salesman and I have tended to shy away from working with him for that reason. His cues, I believe, are almost all CNC constructed. his work is very precise and his finish is superb.

He built a piano key box cue that impressed me very much. Good cues and tight precise inlays.
 
Ok good, I like what I hear. Thanks guys, my fears have been laid to rest. I noticed that he is a member of the International association of cuemakers, but he is currently not a member of the American cuemaker association?

Both organizations are reputable. Many cuemakers choose to remain independent rather than affiliated.

I had Paul build a jump cue butt as a companion to a cue I had. It was the most perfect reproduction of the original butt and the finish and execution were better than I expected.

It was done as promised and on time.

The few times we spoke he was professional, friendly and knowledgeable.

I wouldn't hesitate to give him a very positive recommendation.

I think he is one of the very best craftsman I have dealt with.
