paul mottey for sale

I agree they I dont think he would make a piloted joint with flat faced shafts. Makes 0 sense.

Colin, like I said, in the original pics it looked like a flat faced joint on the butt.

Riden... Can you please confirm if there is a pilot or not on the joint of the butt.

there is no pilot on the butt

Well, that answers my question. Thanks. One more thing. I'm sorry but
that pin does not look like the 5/16-14 pin that I have on my Mottey.
Granted, my joint is piloted, but would Paul have used diifferent 5/16-14
pins when making flat faced, and/or piloted joints?

Mottey

This cue was made in 1986 for dealer Darrel Bumgardner in Huntington WV. Paul made at least Six flat faced cue for him. I have owned Three. One was owned by Marc Masden of The Louisville Billiard Club.
The cue pictured was sold to a wrestling coach in South Point OH named Tex Rickard. His phone number can be had if you PM me. I showed the cue to Paul in Las Vegas at the Riviera and he verified it. Also,Master dealer, Tim Cole with his show partner Trey(Louisville KY), examed it at the Derby City Classic last year along with a 4 veneer Motey 2 shafts and said " The flat faced Mottey was rarer and offered to trade it against a Wrapless Bluegrass cue. Tim is very knowledgable and has a great eye for value. Thanks to Tim for all of the info he has given me over the years I've known him.
Dan Trogdan is an amazing cuemaker and shaftmaker with some shafts hanging 15+ years. He brought the cue back to "like new condition". Nothing was changed on the cue's butt.
It is truely a one of a kind Mottey for collectors. Please contact me with any Questions...

Paul would have never flat faced a shaft into an open collar.

The joint is flat faced... not open or recessed like traditional Mottey's. I have been to one of Jay's rooms where this cue is and he showed me a flat faced Mottey a few years ago. Not sure if this is the one or it was a different one.. but if Jay says it is a Mottey, I am good with that. I bought my second Blevins from him and test drove several others as well as some Richard Harris cues he had. Miss my Blevins..but it went to a good home.
