no jimmybo! james is actually a very talented cue maker that happens to work out of the same shop. i can see where you would make that kind of rookie mistake being a newbie and all. please let me know if i can further help with your education :)
bru he also puts the date in the format of mm/yy

so this is the way he is currently signing his cues......

As Jeff said the signature and date is the most common form. The skyline and PM logo is reserved for very high end cues. I have also seen PM engraved into the butt cap and we have also seen MOTTEY engraved on a cue on this forum.

I have a new Mottey cue, Paul engraved PM in the ivory Hoppe ring located at the end of the butt

Charles

.....and some have not been signed at all.

If Paul feels there isn't a place where his signature or engraving would look good, then he may not even sign it. I have one ivory prong cue like that (not signed) and we have had a few other super fancys over the years that were not signed. In fact, three of these Motteys are not signed:

Jimbo,

Don't blow my cover! ;)

Cues are signed Paul F Mottey on the forearm with the date they are ready for the finish to be applied (usually). Sometimes they get the PM or MOTTEY at the customers' request, or if there is no place to sign the cue (ebony on ebony). High end cues, as stated before get the logo.

Jim

PS Jeff, thanks for the kind words!

You must be a nice guy to put my ugly face on your website. Where did you dig that up?

Jim, I mean Paul, no Jim.

only pic of you on the net! figured if i posted it you would send me better ones just to take it down :)

jeff :)

hmmmmm...looks like everyone had at least 5 cues to show except jw.

note to jw: when opportunity knocks, you have to be ready :)

Just out of curiosity....what do you guys prefer? The "engraving" on the butt cap, or the signature and date on the forearm. Some say the signture detracts from the cue's looks, others say the engraving makes the cue look "production". What are your thoughts?

Jim

Jim,

I have always preferred either a signature in the prong or a tightly styled engraving on the butt cap (like you have sometimes been doing...JMW).

Sometimes though depending on the woods used in the prong/forearm, a signature doesn't look very good IMO. I also don't like the signature done over the veneers.

The PM or MOTTEY engraving in the butt is a different look but honestly think it's a little too overpowering. It may just be the font and size.

I personally like the PM or JMW engraved on the butt cap. Perhaps even the year as well.

I like the signature under the finish, somewhere on the forearm (preferrably not on the veneers), better than the buttcap engraving.

I personally prefer a nice engraved logo on the buttcap. I agree that the signature takes away, but everyone will have their own opinions of course. I guess you would want to provide either/or, depending on the customer's wants.

If the engraving is done tastefully it wont look production, ie. Ginacue, TAD, Ernie Martinez, Ed Prewitt, RC3, and your JMW. Examples of engraving I dont really care for are: the old Josswest, Blackboar (old and new), Lambros, SCHICK - call me crazy but the font he uses - just a little too big.

Regarding signatures- Tascarella takes it. His signature stands out and is easy to identify.
