Yep. Not surprised they paid that for it, but am surprised that they didn't know what it was and sold it so cheap. That shop might not be around long making dumb deals like that.

If it has a name or a number on it Google isnt gonna let them leave any money on the table.

I roll through some pawn shops a few times a year looking for cues, camera gear, microphones, knives, tools or binoculars. The only deal I have found in recent memory was a pair of Steiner binos for $100. They are normally about $250-$300 so it wasnt a great deal but decent.

You would think being in Vegas there would be all kinds of good stuff but so far nothing.

Yeah he showed it to me over at MHB. Said they wanted 150 and he got it for 125. I think your estimate is a bit high as it's a plain BEM player with no points but still, it's probably worth $1500 anyway.

I was told $3000 as 2nd hand information.
I guess a plain one at $1500 is right.
Still a good score.
And we know this person has no reason to sell it. Unless he just doesn't like it.

Maybe but he told me it was in terrible condition when he found it, I mean really bad. He showed it to me after Ernie Martinez had "cleaned it up", and it still wasn't in what I would consider good condition. He said it rolled straight though. I was playing in a tournament so I didn't bother checking, especially after he rudely dismissed my $500 cash money offer

I bought a first series green lable Mali with a brass joint in decent condition for $20 last year at a pawn shop. ( down from $25 lol ) and a year before that I got a Licasi hybrid for $15 ( down from $20 ) from the same place.

I think it's more likely a pool player with a temporary problem who sleeps the allotted time
to pay the interest and claim it back....often it's a gambling or drug addiction problem.
....sometimes it's inherited and the value is unknown.
The chances of getting a Szamboti or a Buska is greater in a pawn shop than getting a
Scon or some such 'cause they are clearly marked.

But usually it's an addiction rather than a theft...I've bought playing cues in pool halls for
a fraction of their value...their nose was open in more ways than one.

Anytime somebody starts a thread rejoicing over a good deal on a higher end branded cue someone will suggest that the cue is stolen and infer that they should report the city , state , and pawn shop where they found it and give their name and drivers license and contact the local police to find the rightful owner.

This only applies to pool cues though , not tool sets , table saws , used appliances , guns , art , lamps , you get the idea. If it was a 40 dollar Viper don't worry about if it was stolen , just the Gold Coast cue.:smile:

Not saying your buddy stole it. I'm saying if the pawn shop sold it for $150 they paid $50 tops and I would guess less than that. So whoever sold it to them sold a Southwest for $50. Meaning they had no idea at all what they had. Unless it was cut up in pieces its worth more than $50 in any pool room. Unless the guy knew he couldnt sell it in the local pool room so dumped it at the pawnshop which is another possibility.

Perhaps some wife or girlfriend found it in a closet and just got what they could. I would still bet my broken window theory is more likely though. Somewhere out there is a couple of Moochies I lost as teenager to that very phenomenon.
