pawn shop prices

I've seen many pawn shops selling used stuff for more than what you can get the item for new!

Make the dealer an offer, but. I think most Pawn Brokers/Agents are sharp on the Value of Items. They normally try and loan as little as possible on items, and mostly would just as soon you come back for your Pawned Items.

Had a friend who was a retired LEO in the Mother Lode Area of California who was a Pawn Broker.

Seldom bought anything, never loaned much on what he too in in pawn, but still would up with a lot of stuff for Sale.

Gary had book on almost anything from guns, jewelry, collectables, and if he was not sure of an item value, and what he could sell it for it it became his. he Passed upon the Pawn Transaction.

Personally have never found and Underpriced Treasure in Pawn Shops, but I am sure they are there if you look, and look.
I was lucky enough to find my current joss in a pawn shop for 75 bucks. Cheri from joss emailed me that the cue is called a J2800 and it is worth 480 bucks. Hopefully not one of my last finds :). I am constantly checking pawn shops for deals and most of what I find is waaaaay overpriced. 120 for a dinged up cuetec... or 280 for a Viking (no offense meant Mike J).

Pawn shops used to be the ticket. Nowwa days, they are just Ebay outlet stores.

Mr. Wilson:

Whenever I move to a new city I checkout ALL of the local pawn shops. There's always at least one that'll sell me Snap On tools for around 25 cents on the dollar, really cheap. And the best time to shop is very early Saturday mornings before everyone else has had a chance to look at the stuff.

Don't get me wrong: I look, but it is very rare that I buy.

Used to be a time when there was a bargain to be had, but Ebay makes it a bidding war and it has been my experience that most of the "good" stuff in the pawn shops are already listed on ebay and will be pulled once they are bid on.

FWIW. :)

I usually purchase at ebay CD's and DVD's brand new, sealed, factory originals for around 50-75% of their retail price.

As to pawn shops, I've purchased a Snap On 1 1/2 ton floor jack along with Snap On 5 ton ratcheting jack stands and a Snap On 3/8 drive torque wrench for $200. Great deal. One must put in an effort to find the stuff.

Ah, and a warning to all: Touch my Snap On's and you'll all be wearin' a strap-on.
