PayPal Fee Question - Anyone Know?

This seemed like the best place to ask since PayPal is used a lot with the transactions in this forum. My question relates to the fees charged to sellers by PayPal.

I recently received a payment and was not charged any fees for the transaction. However, with other transactions there have been fees deducted from my payment listed next to the transaction.

After doing a little digging, it's appears that "if the buyer has the funds in his PayPal balance" there is no fee charged to the seller. Is this correct?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

wowwww!!!

That is a new one to me. All of my selling and accepting of payments has caused a fee from paypal for just being there. Was your transaction different from normal this time?

I don't know what was different about yours, but I always get charged around 3%. I do think I remember something about a small "personal" account that was treated differently. Maybe log on to Paypal and search "Fees and payments".

Looks like that if you receive funds that were readily available from a "Personal" account, there is no "Paypal to Paypal fee.

Great...that's what I needed to know.

Since the funds I received were in fact "from" a Business Account, it appears that ANYTIME a payment is received into a personal account where the buyer is using his "PayPal balance", there are NO FEES.

it doesnt have anything to do with what kind of acount your recieving funds from, its what kind of account you have....

here's an easier to read fee chart:
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees

its also in the terms and conditions:
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/UserAgreement/ua/USUA

if you have a personal account, any funds you recieve from paypal ready funds are free of charge, and you are limited to recieve funds from credit card to 5 per 12 month period at a 4.9% charge.

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/UserAgreement/ua/USUA#receive-policy
4.2 Receiving Different Types of Payments. If you have a Personal Account you may receive Balance/Bank Funded Payments for free, and up to 5 Card Funded Payments per 12 month period for a Fee, except that you may not receive Card Funded Payments into a Personal Account for an eBay transaction. If you have a Premier or Business Account, you may receive an unlimited number of Card Funded Payments. Please note that all payments received by a Premier or Business Account will be subject to a Fee in accordance with section 8 of this Agreement.

mind you, because it is increasingly common on this board, and it really iritates the crap out of me every time i see it, it is a violation of both the paypal terms and conditions and az blliards terms and conditions, and such illigal, to charge extra to accept paypal from a buyer.

4.7 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

And it appears that in many cases buyers are paying extra fees that are not even being charged to the seller.

I received $400 this afternoon (Paypal kept $15 or almost 4%). Later today I had the $385 refunded and they only refunded about $370 after deducting another $14.80). That's about 8% in fees over 4 hours.

Speaking to a Paypal human might take 45 minutes of your life.

Same here - I get dinged about 4% when receiving funds via Paypal.

yes.. but you can only recieve so much into your personal account.. and once you hit that limit no matter how long it takes.. you will then have no choice to upgrade to a premier account or they will no longer let you use it..
