PAYPAL.....you really do suck

I have a question, if you sell one cue , that's around 4000, whats the best way to get your money, if the person wants to use paypal ? I've used it numerous times but never for that amount. And after reading this post, I'm leary.
Suggestions?
What's the best way to ship so that, the cue definitely reaches the destination with no problems?

Personal check, money order, direct bank to bank transfer, Western Union, cash in hand.

If the person wants to use paypal and you don't want to, really its up to you how desperate you want the sale and up to the buyer how desperate he wants the item (to make him/her use a different method of payment).

Shipping....it really depends where you are in the world. I have had no real problems with Fed-ex, USPS, UPS, DHL. All have online tracking services. Everyone will have their horror stories with each of the companies mentioned. Even I have with these companies if I went into detail but due to the shear frequency of me using these services (a lot I can tell you), you are bound to hit troubles one time or another.

If someone pays with a check, money order etc., how long do you wait for it to clear your bank & when do you ship the cue ? Thanks.

Paypal works great...until you have a problem.

It wouldn't be my first choice for large transactions on a regular basis.

I'd suggest that ALL Paypal users get Paypal's security token for ~$5...it'll buy you a lot of peace of mind.

ok, I'm easy, what is this security token $5 ?

In a nutshell, you would need your correct username, password AND the code that changes every 30 seconds, in order to log in to your Paypal.

If the bad guys got your user/pass combo they would not be able to drain your bank account.

What is it?
The PayPal Security Key creates random temporary security codes that help safeguard your PayPal account when you log in. It comes in 2 types, each with different advantages:

Security key token: This version is an electronic device - or "token" - designed to be carried on a key ring. It creates a security code for you every 30 seconds.
Mobile phone security key: You can get temporary security codes on your mobile phone by text messages (also called SMS).

How much does it cost?
The mobile security key has no costs, except your mobile provider's standard text messaging charges. Check with your mobile provider for details.

Each security key token is $5, and there's no monthly service fee or additional cost. Replacement tokens are the same price.

How do I get started?
Choose the type of security key you want. If you want the token, we'll ship it to you. For the mobile phone security key, all you need is your mobile phone.
Activate it from your PayPal or eBay account.

I know that some people open a bank account that is only used to receive funds from Paypal transfers. That way, if/when your account is frozen do to a PP investigation, it doesn't freeze your main checking account. When money is received via PP to your designated bank account, you immediately transfer it out of there and into your main bank account. It's not a scam or anything, it just keeps PP from locking up all of your money while they flip a coin to determine the outcome of their investigation.

PP is definitely not perfect. As a general rule when sending money, always use a credit card through paypal, and file a claim as soon as you think something is wrong with your transaction. I learned the hard way...

This is a great way to handle your bank account and Paypal and I wish i'd set up my Paypal account this way. I'm not sure if you can switch bank accounts without closing your Paypal account and starting over. I need to read the Paypal rules about this.

I've had some bad things happen to me using Paypal and I know how Si feels. I don't like using Paypal and I think their fees are too high!

I am in the same boat! They suspended my Paypal account a couple of weeks ago. they are now asking for more tracking numbers from past transactions that have positive feedback on them. They just keep saying these transactions are under review for unusual activity. I guess they do not like me recieving payments or making payments as this is what must be unusual activity to them. They have reversed payments made by me and frozen the payments to me. I even transfered more money into the account to cover any payments I had pending so now I have even more money locked up in paypal. I have never had a problem with them before but this sucks. Paypal has made me look bad to the sellers I am dealing with, and my buyers are asking whats the problem, and why can't I leave you feedback and why have my items been removed from ebay.

Acct frozen

Once again paypal CANNOTfreeze your bank account for ANY reason. The only money paypal has any control over is the funds they are holding in limbo at paypal, I say this from a 2 year dispute with paypal. I am not saying we should do business with paypal far from it, I would not accept paypal payment from my Mother.
NO PAYPAL!!

Sorry to be the one to resurrect this subject.
But, I just received a rather large payment via paypal
and they called me and started asking me for tracking
numbers for shipments in the past, and I felt like I was
being treated like a criminal. I told them to reverse the
payment I had just received and I'm done. I'm not going
to jump through hoops to get my account reinstated. They
can kiss my ass...I'm done with PayPal...

E Bay

Funny thing about PayPal is I recently bought an item on ebay and was sending a us money order as agreed upon with the seller. E Bay sent numerous requests for payment and really badgered me to use Paypal. I just ignored and deleted all the BS and eventually they dropped it. I have the feeling that soon the will come down on activities like mine and make it impossible to use ebay without the Paypal payment. Perhaps then a new auction site will come along; as it is now EBay has a virtual monopoly and probably feels like they can do whatever they like..
PayPal sucks!!!
