Pechauer cues

I know a very good player who uses a Pechauer, very nice looking cue. I was surprised when I looked on fleabay and saw how inexpensive they are, not uncommon to find them under $200.

Why are they so inexpensive?

Arrant nonsense.

All of Jerry's cues are good value for the money and his Pro series are some of the most solid cues around. I've owned a couple and still have one. The fit and finish is exemplary and they play as well or better than any of my much more expensive 'custom' cues.

IMHHO, you can't go wrong buying a 'cheap' :-) Pechauer...

Pechauer quality is great and so is their service, they make a great product and stand behind their products. Their prices should be higher for the amount of work and precision that they build with.

Pechaur cues are along the same line as Schons, they are production cue companies that try to pass themselves off as custom cue companies. They like any other production cue have the potential to hit good or bad from cue to cue. I have played with Schons and Pechaurs that hit well and others that didn't. I don't mean to knock them, what I am trying to get at is that you can't judge the company by the way one cue hits because the hit can vary greatly from cue to cue in a production line. It is unlike say a Scruggs, which no matter which one you buy will hit "like a Scruggs".

Also, a good player playing with a cue is no indication of cue quality. Some of the better players I know shoot with production cues or house sticks and can get out. A saying I'm fond of is "Its not the wand its the wizard".

IMO all his cues hit like firewood, well at least the ones with the quick release joint. I played with one that didn't have a speed joint and it played alright. NOw the quality of the cue is different. I bought the 3 jp's that I had because they were pretty. They all looked amazing but they hit like hell. But FWIW not everyone has my taste. lol. I guess I'm just used to my buss and judd. But the pechauers I had didn't play to par or "better" than my much more expensive cues.

There is nothing wrong with the way that they play. I played with one for a couple of years and had no complaints. Of course, how a cue plays is subjective and I am not about to get into that debate :)

The thing for you to do is to not take any person's word on it and go try one. Pechauers are pretty common, you should be able to find one and give it a try.

As for being inexpensive or not, that is pretty subjective. Peachauers are production cues and the price reflects that. Personally, I think the lower priced one offer a very good value.

If you've got a Buss and a Judd then you've got some great custom cues to compare anything to! Great insight.

I bought one of their best of line new from a dealer before
I discovered custom cues. $620 for about $460. I mainly
play one hole & it hits a little too stiff to me for one hole.
But, it's great for playing 8 ball. Reminds me a little of Coker
or Jackson or the better Joss's.

I have to agree...I own several Pechauers. 2 PL01's (one playing, one jump/break), and my wife has a sneaky pete and a P23. Mind you these are Pechauer's, and not the 'JP' Pechauers. I don't particularily care for the JPs. Here in Central PA there are A LOT of people playing with Pechauers, since one guy sells them, and sells them at very reasonable prices. Most of the ones I have seen on ebay are pretty much going for retail, unless its a JP Pechauer, which I feel don't hold there value much.

Plus, Jerry signs EVERY cue he sells. I think that this is true for all cue except the JP Pechauers.

I like Pechauer cues, but I put OB-1 or 314 shafts on them. I never played with the regular Pechauer shaft, so I can't say how those are.

Just curious, what is the difference between a Pechauer and a 'JP'?

Mainly cosmetic. JPs use no exotics, just maple forearms, faux ivory inlays, stains, phenolic-type joint, and wood-wood flat faced joint. Pro series, pro limited, limited, etc.. use exotics, ivory, SS joint collar, and brass piloted joint.

All the shaft wood is the same. So no matter what Pechauer you buy, you are getting a great shaft. I have not seen one warp, personally. Jerry mills from start to finish all his own shaft wood. He keeps the best of the best, and uses those for himself.
