Pedro's match today with Mazin Shooni - Pedro finishes 40 points in 8 innings.
The scoreline was:
14 - 0 - 13 - 0 - 2 - 0 - 1 - 10

Unbelievable!

Bert,

In your article, the chart at the end states "Matches at 3.000 or better". It was supposed to say "5.000 or better", right?

One of my arguments I have repeated over and over again ad nauseam is the importance of streaming as many tournaments in the states as financially possible. Especially our Nationals. "There will come a time or two when someone will run 32 points or have a phenomenal game or shot."

So my question is, did Doug record the match between Pedro and Mazin? If so can Doug put it up on his Ustream account when he gets a chance?

If not...well...:eek:

You're absolutely correct. I understand it's difficult and expensive to set up streaming for the week but this is the biggest tournament of the year in the U.S. There is no promotion whatsoever. The casual pool player or billiard player probably has no idea the national's are taking place. There has to be some way to bring someone in to stream for the week and some way for the USBA to put some money aside for this purpose even if it's for this tournament only. Heck it seems like every small regional pool tournament has some streaming every weekend and then there's nothing for a great event like this. I would be willing to pay to watch the stream as I often purchase many of the big pool events, but I know many are not. The USBA should make it a priority for next year.

I sure would love to see you on the USBA board of directors Joey V. It is absolutely inexcusable to not highlight our most prestigious tournament of the year!

yup!...the first thing I thought of when I saw the 40 points in 8 innings was I hope someone has it on video!:eek:

I am a new convert to 3c and the lack of coverage is causing me to consider the stream cost or availability and if I could possibly make it happen. When on any weekend I can see more then a few bar table events streamed......how can the USBA Nationals go without coverage?!!!

Joey; They had at least 9 months to get this done correctly, IMO, there's NO excuse for not having the rest of the pool/billiard community having access to watching some of the BEST players with have to offer in the USA. This is one of the most effective avenues to try and promote NEW players from the pocket players pond! :(

I couldn't agree more. I am on the USBA board so I have to take my share of ineptness.
Unfortunately however unless the members of our organization do two things nothing will significantly happen;

1. Voice your opinion and volunteer where ever you can.
2. Put your money where your mouth is. If you don't have money try to recruit people who do. Contact sponsors.

Again I am hoping by chance this match got recorded.

You shouldn't be soooo concerned about only one match, this is the "Nationals" our countries premier tournament of the year, ALL the matches are important! There are 8 Finalists, not just one!

JMHO!

Of course. But situations like a certain match can accentuate the purpose of highlighting the whole Nationals experience.

yes, but when a player averages 5!......and world class speed is an average of 1.......that player demands attention. I would put that game on par with a run of 14.1 in the 400 to 500 range IMO. Or maybe a 59 in golf.

I agree 100% The biggest event in 3 C'S in the U.S.A. and not to have it streamed .It's sickening

I have spoken privately with one AZ'er about this issue and now I will post that same message here.

Let me say this upfront: I personally like live-streaming. I wish we could have every match live-streamed although I am sure that most of the matches held between B and C players won’t be watched (LOL).

With that said, it becomes a matter of what is best for billiards, what is involved, how much does it cost, can we afford it and is it worth it?

Is it best for billiards? I don’t think anybody would say that live-streaming is bad for billiards, so this is a non-issue. Of course we all would love to have it.

What is involved? The two major issues here are that we need a person that knows what they are doing and we need a strong internet connection with high bandwidth. We can get someone that knows what they are doing but that usually means that we have to pay them for their time and in most cases we also have to get them to the venue which means travel and hotel, meals, etc. Bandwidth is always a problem and almost every venue in the country does NOT have sufficient bandwidth. In other words, it always has to be “brought in” by the cable company which means hundreds of dollars just to get it hooked up. When we have the bandwidth put in at a non-pool room such as a hotel in Vegas, it costs us a couple thousand just to install it.

Overall, if we have it in a pool room, it will cost us at least $2000. In 2010 we live-streamed the Nationals (but only the Finals and only one match streamed per round). We hired a professional and it cost us about $3000 altogether. The live-stream was great. The professional complained because it was too many matches for him and too long of a day. He was used to streaming only 1-3 matches per day for pool, so he complained and moaned and cried a lot. The sad part about it was that we had an average of about 100-500 people watching all the time with a spike at one time of over 1000, but we did not receive any brand new members whatsoever after the stream. Not that membership is the ultimate tell-all, but it seemed like we were streaming to the choir. Not that the choir doesn’t also deserve some perks, but we were hoping to get some new members and players out of it, too.

Outside of a pool room, it’s more like $4000-$5000. Now here’s a really neat goal: if we can somehow get 500 people to each pay a mere $10 then we would have $5000!

My other idea is this: purchase several HD cameras and tripods and have them shipped to different tournaments. One person is in charge. Don’t need to hire anyone. Record every match and then post them online or on YouTube, etc. We would always have HD quality and we wouldn’t miss any great matches!

Mr. Shovak; Practically every major city in the US, has either , Rent-A-Center or AArons where one may rent a computer, and HD camera equipment by the week, at a VERY reasonable cost, maybe $80.00 for 2 HD cameras and 2 computers. Another idea, go to a PAWN shop, they always have GREAT deals on electronics. Most billiard rooms in the US have Wi-Fi nowadays, so the Bandwidth will be, I assume OK, since most people have some kind of mobile communication device that is glued to their hand, now most rooms accommodate their customers.

I think the USBA should start looking around to see who the least expensive Live-Stream company that does the work for most of the Pool events in their particular area. I know Upstate Al does many events in the NYC area, that's one place to start! Maybe a room like Carom Café could get the ball rolling in that area, other then when they Live Stream the Verhoeven Open.

Respectfully;
