Well Geno!

I changed my mind, As you recall I was using perfect Aim to teach my son Manny. Well after teaching Manny your Perfect Aim System for about a month now this is where We stand.

Last nite After our 1 pocket league in which Manny and I are partners , We decided to move to a bar table so I could work with him some more.

We`ll after a little bit of woofing and smack talk at Manny from me , Manny challenged me to a few sets of 9ball, I told him he `s not ready for me yet!

Well! being the confident little kid he is, He said Ok then race to 5 for 5.00 (allowance and tourney entry money), Well I jump at the chance to show my son that his dad can still play. Heres what Happened.

1st set I jump out to a 3-0 lead,Manny does not like it. I figure he`s done this set. Well next time I look up at the score its 4-3 Manny. Manny dry breaks I run out for a 4-4 score. I dry break at hill - hill, Manny runs out and wins 1st set 5-4. ( Lucky kid) You shoot Lucky kid! I tell him (Manny smiles)and I proceed to racking for our next set.

2nd set I was determined to jump out to a lead and hold it, (See How the kid holds up under pressure). Manny breaks, runsout , I rack, Manny breaks runsout, I rack ( kid put a 2 pack on me). No respect for his old man! I rack Manny breaks The rack barely moved, Kid yells out Hey!!! you stuck me on that rack!!! I laugh! (Kids gotta learn!).

We rerack, I break dry, Manny makes another amazing runout. score 3-0 Manny. Next rack is dry I proceed to runout, but fail an attempt at shape on the 7, Manny finishes out the rack smiling. ( Yeah! That famous line is in my head,It`s a nightmare is`nt it). Mannys up 4-0. But this dad ain`t dead yet, Just need an opportunity.

It comes on the next break when Manny breaks dry and next time Manny looks up it`s a 4-4 hill-hill battle.

Well! I break!, Its dry and its ugly, Manny shoots some amazing Perfect Aim cut shots plays shape Like I never knew he could and gets out. Score 5-4 Manny.

Ok! Now the Kid is up 2 sets on me At 5.00 a piece thats 10.00 . I never lost 10.00 that quick to anyone. looks Like I`ll be playing a tourney this weekend dad. Ok! Kid lets double up on one more set. Manny looks up at me with wide eyes and says, Whats that mean? I explain and we proceed to the next set.

3rd Set, Manny breaks and runs out, (I`m watching as he gracefuuly manuevers around the table and see him using what I taught him and Genes perfect Aim System. The way he shoots straight in shots and cutting in balls that have no business being cut!).

Ok! Now! I tell him thats it kid, no more playing around with you I`m gonna show you How its done!

Well, Manny looked at me with a serious glaze, Like I took away his xbox 360 or something and now I think I`m in trouble!

Manny breaks for the 2nd game and next time I look at the score its 4-0 Manny.

Darn! I need just 1 more window to get in this game, And I see my chance as the Kid breaks the next rack, pockets a ball But the layout is UGLY!

So I figure I have a shot this game to get back in . Well!, I watch intently as the kid proceeds to figure out this rack. Surely he`s got to foul up in this layout, I look and the 6 ball is laying ugly near the side pocket rite at the corner tip and against the rail, And the 9 ball is close by seemingly cutting off his 6ball escape to the only corner pocket opened for it.

But even to get this far in this layout is going to take the likes of Earl Strickland or Efren Reyes. Well Manny shoots the 1ball pockets it and shape on the 2 is rough, He pockets the 2 on an incredible shot. ( Kid looks good I admit, And I`m silently rooting for him to manuever this rack and get out.

The 3 ball goes down next, 4 is already gone , The 5 disappears in a shot I thought came from a cannon, and lo and behold he`s on the 6ball, I don`t know How he got to it as the 5 gave no indication it would allow it.

But he`s in trouble, whitey is almost married to the 6 and I proceed to chalk my cue and hold my breath at the chance to jump in.

The kid now looks over the shot ( surely contemplating safety of which I see nowhere to hide, The kids looks again at the 6, whitey so close you could not fit a razor blade in between them. Kid gets down strokes the cue fires the shot! NO FREAKING WAY!!! the 6 ball slices up the side rail past the side pocket squeezes by the 9 ball (so close I swear it left a burn mark on the 9) before disappearing into the corner pocket! I`m stunned! Perfect Aim what have we created?

Kid looks at me smiles and proceeds to polish off the rack.

Score 5-0 Manny!

I walk over to The Kid and tell him Impressive kid, you dusted your old man.

Thats Ok! Dad He says , You got the 8 anytime,. Heck! You better make it the 7 kid!

We laugh and pack it up and call it a nite.

Ok! so to you Geno , Thats Why Perfect Aim Sucks, I gotta ask for the 7 from My 11 year old Kid! :embarrassed2:

Thanks for reading everyone. H.P

NAW NOT WHOOPED BY YOUR OWN KID!!!!! BRUTAL lol

just picking that was a good lil' story brother and pretty well written IMOP it flowed nicely, thanks for the read i enjoyed it. Tell your son to keep it up :)

your going to have to find The Perfectest Aim video to get even now:p;)

best wishes,
Grey Ghost

Gene's DVD has worked wonders for some players, but it's merely a tool. It can't miraculously make someone play great. The majority of the game is a toss up between mental strength and position play. Aiming accounts for hardly anything.

The same applies to every other instructional videos or systems out there (including mine). There is no miracle solution. Talent and determination can't be purchased, let alone for under $100.

I am however glad to hear that Manny is progressing, and that you're having a lot of fun with him. Keep it coming. :)

The Run Out Kid!...Manny

9ball that was a good read, sounds like you got a little monster on your hands!

I hope Manny continues to improve, he may just have a bright future in Pocket Billiards!

These threads make no sense to me. They remind me of those ads I see online that say "learn the one secret to losing 35lbs in 7 days!" (or whatever).

As good as the aiming system might be, it can't miraculously make someone play great. The majority of the game is a toss up between mental strength and position play. Aiming accounts for hardly anything.

I agree with you that it takes more than aiming to be great in pool , I have worked hard with Manny over the past year on all aspects of his game including my own aiming system, However with Perfect Aim I see an improvment where he was having some trouble before, He`s getting out more consistant as he demonstrated to me last night.

Theres no magic cure for playing great it takes practice, practice, practice. Perfect aim is just helping him get there faster.

I did not know you had a Instructional video out there , If you want to send us one I would be Happy to review it and show Manny and see how it helps, Instructional videos are always welcomed . Thanks H.P.

I see you quoted my post before I had a chance to edit it. I felt that my original draft came across as rude, which was definitely not my intent. Thankfully it seems that you didnt take it that way.

My post wasnt meant to disrespect your post, but rather to imply that your progress with Manny is likely mostly due to the fact that you're making him enjoy the game. He's learning because you're giving him the support and time required to learn proper fundamentals. Perfect Aim clearly contributed, but the fact that he's finding the game fun is the real reason for his progress. Well done. :)

Um, I think aiming is the most important part of pool. Because if you can't aim then nothing else matters. Who cares if you have the greatest stroke if you can't get out?

Everything starts with aiming properly AND then it's execution.

So whether Gene's method works or not - and it apparently does for this family - learning to aim right is probably the most important thing a player can learn.

Execution is a big part of aimng and without a good stroke you wont get it done. How can aiming be more important then the stroke if the guy cant hit the ball where he,s looking.
How many of us have look for the holy grail of aiming and came to the realization that it was the stroke that was hindering are game.
In the beginning its all about good fundamentals.

After the stroke aiming comes because now we know we hit the ball where we are looking .(just my opinion )..

As far as I know, there is no system that easily calculates cue ball speed, english, throw, distance to the object ball, cloth conditions, and deflection...and then uses it to adjust the aiming point. Its mostly feel. Since cue ball control and position play are key factors to a high caliber game, the basic aiming practice becomes a very small part of the game. Sure, its a very important aspect, but small never the less.

No one said anything about a system. All I said is that if you are not lined up on the ball correctly then you can everything else down perfect and you still won't make the ball.

In other words I can put my wife up against Shane Van Boening and bet millions that she will win if I am allowed to shift Shane's line up by one inch on every shot. It doesn't matter that he is world class in every other aspect because if you hit the cue ball with perfect speed and have perfectly calculated your cue ball speed, english, throw, distance to the object ball, cloth conditions, and deflection but you are sending the cue ball to the wrong spot then you miss, it's as simple as that.

Therefore learning how to aim is more important than all the rest. Not small at all. I don't know if you really play pool but I can tell you that there are a lot of excellent players out there who miss more balls than they should simply because they are not aiming right. Oh, they are able to FEEL their way into the right line most of the time but they just always miss that one shot here and there that they FELT they were lined up right on.

I guess we will just have to disagree about the importance of aiming. Hate to club you over the head but in my now 30 years of playing I find that aiming wrong is what holds most players back. Once I learned to aim the right way my game went up two balls and I now make shots easily that used to give me a lot of trouble. - and sure, I miss plenty of balls too because of the other variables you mention but that's another story.

Pool goes like this - aim then execute.

Easy. The greatest stroke in the world will not send the cue ball to the right spot if the cue stick is not aimed properly.

BUT if the cue is aimed properly THEN a person can hit the cueball anywhere on the face of it and still make the object ball.

So in other words a person who is properly lined up can INTEND to hit the cue ball with low left and actually hit it with high right and still make the ball.

BUT if that same person is lined up wrong on the SAME SHOT then no matter where they hit the cue ball they WILL NOT make the object ball.

So aiming is the first step and everything else follows it.

I will make you this bet.

You take a rank beginner off the street and teach him a picture perfect stroke and nothing else.

I will take a rank beginner off the street and only teach them to aim using center ball and won't help them with their stroke at all.

Are you willing to bet any significant money that your player will beat my player? I am willing to bet large on my player winning because they will pocket more balls. My player will simply be able to make more shots.

good story, I wish my dad got me started that young. Thankfully my bro got me addicted at 13.

Your already assuming your player has a good stroke .
You can teach someone all aiming systems in the world and make sure there cueing through the center of the cb but it wont do them any good if
they dont stroke it straight.

If a instructor was teaching a beginner how to play pool he would not jump write to the aiming part of the game ,,,,why is that ?Because it does know good if you cant hit the ball where your looking.

Great story 9Ball.

Manny sounds like a play-ah in the making and you've got the dad part down pat. :thumbup2:

My question is this: Was that Manny being Manny? :p

(Lived through that for seven years here in New England... LA is welcome to Manny-land!)

Geno

I played Geno last weekend in the WI BCA State Tournament (9ball). I lost 7-1 on the losers side but Gene played mistake free pool and made it look easy, the only game I won was on his dry break (winner breaks). He played 3 safes on me in the match and had me kicking 2 or 3 rails or he just ran out. I hate losing but this was cool to watch, some great playing and he deserved to win. I guess Perfect Aim is working for him too.

thanks

Thanks to those with the kind words. And those that took the time to read this story. I simply wrote it to show how well Manny is doing and for everyones enjoyment.

I think kids are our future in pool and we need to help them along best we can. Currently I am working with Mannys National Championship team and teaching them what I taught Manny. They are quickly grasping what I am teaching them and I feel we will have a very strong team again.

Nathan, I did not take your comments the wrong way, Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks

I am assuming nothing. I have several beginners in my shop and I teach them the basics of aiming first and work on their stroke later.

I USED TO teach them the mechanics of the stroke first and I find it much easier when they understand how to line up to correct the stroke.

And I will bet large that I can take a person who has never held a cue in their hands and lay the cuestick on the correct line and as long as they don't miscue they will make the shot I set up no matter where they hit the cueball.

Heres my take..

Aiming is extremely important and is one of the few aspects that can be taught.
You can do all of the other things you listed great and not make a ball without aiming to the correct spot. Perfect speed, perfect pattern, perfect amount of english but aim was off and you will return to your seat.

Talent becomes very clear when watching players feel and natural ability to see the patterns.

I really would love to see aome type of tool that teaches newbies to aim a round object at a 1/8inch spot. Everyone, even the bangers, can show you where on the object ball to hit. However many cant grasp how to get the balls lined correctly at collision.
I have not tried Accushot but i like the concept.
