As mentioned in the obit above, he got into the VHS rental business at the right time and more importantly, he got out at the right time.

In 1981 I saw Pete in an exhibition at Jack & Jill in Brewster, NY. He was on a run of 198 with a perfect side of the rack break shot and the cue ball followed through the balls to scratch in the side pocket. That was the longest run I had ever seen up to then. He also did an exhibition for author John Grissim (not Grisham, wrote "Billiards") in a firehouse in Marin County (CA). I got to hold my stick during the event (about 1980?).
 
you knew greatness when he and his friends would play a player 100 no count in a race to 100 and win most all times.
