Philippine National Pool Campionships start tomorrow

Looking at the match-ups, I see Johann Chua (Choa) is on the list. From what I remember he's a young seemingly pool prodigy who should be around 14-15 by now. The story behind him is that his father pulled him out of school to focus on billiards. Last I heard (from 3 years ago) he had a tutor, but I still think his dad shouldn't have pulled him out of school. Any more light you can shine on this Edwin? Please feel free to add... :D

My boy is 17 year old Renemar "Revo" David and he will be playing Warren Kiamco in the opening televised match. I'll try and get as many photos as I can if I can keep from being a nervous wreck!LOL

Edwin, "My boy" as in "YOUR SON"? Is that right? If so, here's wishing REVO the best of luck and may dad not drink any coffee or other stimulating drinks. :D :D :)

EDit: That's 6 hours of live television coverage????? Well, at least SOME people have it all. ENJOY!

For Phoebe, Alex will be playing at 5 pm local time, about an hour and half from now. Am not at venue, but i just saw your post and texted my friend in the tournament. The tournament just started at 1 pm.

My picks are Van Corteza and Orcullo. Many good players in this field.

I am thinking how does this field size up with the UPA Tour Championships this week in L.A. We have Mika, Thorsten, Rodney, Johnny, Charlie and many more good ones here, plus Efren and Busty.

My gut feeling is, if you put the players from both fields side side (leave out Efren and Busty) and matched them up, the filipinos would win. Just my humble opinion. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Updates are now posted on poolphilippines.com

We don't have internet lines at the venue, so live updates aren't possible. We're also on delayed telecast on National TV (ABC-5) so we decided to tally all the day's results and post it after the day.

You may catch breaking news on the papers before the reporters beat their deadlines (the matches end about 2 hours after press end) so you can get partial results on Philippine dailies' websites like Manila Bulletin as was previously posted.

Lee Van Corteza fought back from a 5-1 deficit to win his match 9-5 against Pornelosa on National TV, Jay. Dennis Orcullo won running away 9-1 against WPC referee Allan Soliman.

On Johann Choa: we hardly see his father around anymore. Currently he's been adopted by Alex Pagulayan into his "stable" along with Richard Pornelosa.

Thanks cuycuy.....yeah, I remember Buwit (Johann)! Alex likes the kid. When I was there, Alex had him stay with us in Manila at the hotel. He was a good kid, we just had a hard time cause of the language barrier. Don't know if I met Richard before, but I know Alex mentioned Jarome Pena as someone he'd like to cultivate.

Here are the latest results. No major surprises in day 1. The biggers names/veterans easily defeated the younger players:

 Uh.oh... There are some serious accusations against Ronnie Alcano mentioned in the above article and in this one. I hope they are proven false.

That is a terrible accusation that has been made. Hopefully the truth will come out.

Awwww...... thanks gopi-1! He's probably a lot taller than he was when I last saw him, very cute picture of him. Hope he stays on track with the pool thing. Sometimes I think Alex likes him around cause Alex is a kid himself...lol!

You're welcome!
Mau just escaped the upset axe as he had to dig down to his bag of tricks
before disposing off upstart Roland Dela Cruz. I read Alex was down early
(4-6) before he settled down and won his first game in a hill-hill match. The
first is always the hardest, or so they say!

Well, sometimes (if you didn't notice) Alex tends to have a hard time focusing. Reasons why.....I don't know. But, he's always said that in the Philippines he feels the most pressure, and has the hardest time focusing. But, I've seen him get in those zones where he is practicaly invincible - I always tell him...Becoming a champ is the easy part, continuing to be a champ and to continue winning is the hard part. Everyone expects only the best from you afterwards - there is practically no room for failure.

But thanks for the updates and links.....on to the next round!!!!!!

OK, so how do I get ABC5 here in Pennsylvania ?! :)

or a new friend from the Phillipines who will tape the matches on TV and next day UPS them to me here in the States......for a fee of course!:)

If I have a tv tuner card here in my PC, I could have streamed the
aired delayed coverage to any of you here in AZ. Too bad, can't
afford one. :o
