Philippine National Pool Campionships start tomorrow

i know, it's not in the character of Efren and Django to shy away to competition, especially good competition.

:)

i'm in a pool community, so probably the person who send this to me is also in a pool community, and only targeting people who are link in to pool. pathetic guy  .

Efren and Django are here in L.A. for the UPA Tour Championships. The story I'm hearing is that it has to do with the fact that they are sponsored by San Miguel and the Philipine Championships are sponsored by Guinness. If this is the case, it is a shame. But I'm glad to see them here playing against the top American talent and some of Europe's best. I'm sure these players would have been just as happy if Efren and Django had stayed home.

Pretty strong field assembled here. Should be interesting week of Pool both here and in the Philipines.

The Philippine National Championships are sponsored by San Miguel. Their logo is all over the place. They're even showing the San Miguel Commercial starring Efren with him nowhere to be seen in the program.

Their press statement said that the LA tournament was a prior commitment.

I manage to get information about Alcano's case. A friend told me that his ex-wife was the one suing Ronnie for rape when she arrived from working abroad, but when the daughter was examined by doctors, there was no sign of rape, she was clean. But then the "rape" according to the complain was actually acts of lasciviuosness which happened late November. But the father and daughter where again together Dec. 25 or to that date, and all was well, no sign of aloofness from the daugther.
No families of Alcano believed the story, not even the grandfather where Ronnie's daughter lives. Everyone is theorizing that this is all about money. The ex wants a big cut on Ronnie's hundreds of $$$ earnings.
I would like to see the end of this. I really hope it is not true.

I'm sorry but could you clarify about the "ex-wife". Is it your friend's ex-wife or Ronnie's ex-wife that is doing the suing? (I just want to make sure of what you are saying-thanks)

Let's hope the daughter and mother are lying. It would be easier to forgive them for lying even though they are trying to destroy a man's one shot at financial freedom than it would be to forgive a father for incest.

I am talking about Ronnie's ex-wife, the mother of Ronnie's 14 year old daughter who is suing him.

Ronnie's "ex-wife," I thought in Philippines "once a wife is always a wife" unless you are a celebrity then you can ask for an annulment. :D

actually it is not a man's shot at financial freedom which is compromised but a man's reputation and freedom from judicial persecution. A negative perception on a man's integrity could cause a destructive effect not only on one's own livelihood but also personal honor. it is so sad that some people are that desperate that they resort to destroying another person for money's sake (regardless if the money came from a dishonorable deed done). if indeed, that the mother and daughter were lying, the scenario would be like of Judas' betrayal.

I just noticed that Alcano is wearing a San Miguel patch on the right side. I thought he signed up to endorse Guinness?

If it's beer, it's Guiness, but if it's frozen chicken and other products like hotdogs, it's San Miguel...

He did. He's not allowed to endorse any beer products because of it. So instead of San Miguel Beer, he went with San Mig Coffee. He's endorsing Purefoods - the hotdog division of San Miguel in the Guinness tour AFAIK. If you noticed, the patch is a sticker instead of a cloth patch that's used more often. San Miguel improvised on the fly with that. :)

Lots of upsets in day 3. Marlon Manalo, Lee Van Corteza, Warren Kiamco were all defeated by relatively unknown players and are now in the loser's side.

An exciting match-up between Alex Pagulayan and Dennis Orcullo is looming on the horizon assuming both players win their respective matches tomorrow.

My bet to win this tournament is Dennis Orcullo.

Marlon Manalo was beaten by Godofredo "Boy Cotobato" Ducanes, who's part of the Negros Billiard Stable along with Corteza and Jarry "Two-finger" Pelayo. He's an old hand (around 50 something I believe) who was a feared player way back when. The general trend of this tournament has been favoring veteran players pulling off upsets - from Acaba downing Jeff de Luna to Fidel Punzalan playing the game of his life against Alcano.

Corteza was beaten by Biado, one of Perry Mariano's boys (Orcullo, Alcano included). He's a known player who hasn't shown up in tournaments till now, with 2 tv wins in a row.

I don't know much about Rodrigo Geronimo who beat Kiamco. But Kiamco has been suffering from some eye ailment that he got from campaigning in winter while in the US, which in turn affected his play. We hope he gets better soon.

Alcano is OUT!!!

The strain of the rape accusations may have been too much for even Ronnie Alcano to hurdle. According to a poster in the official forum, he has just lost for a second time in the tournament so he is now out of it.

Latest updates - day 4

Orcullo beats Pagulayan 9-6. He now joins Antonio Lining in the semis.

In the one loss side, it is Gallego vs Lee Van Corteza and Manalo vs. Alex Pagulayan. The winners join Lining and Orcullo in the semis.

Updated brackets...

http://www.poolphilippines.com/images/stories/men\'s 64 double elim.pdf

Only 6 players left: Gallego, Van Corteza, Manalo, Pagulayan on the one loss side and Lining , Orcullo in the winner's side.

The winner of the Gallego vs Corteza match will face Dennis Orcullo while the winner of the Pagulayan vs Manalo match will match-up with Antonio Lining

According to earlier reports, Dennis Orcullo is in stroke and looks unbeatable at this point. If ever he wins this tournament, he will have a lot of confidence and momentum in his upcoming match with Yang next month.

latest articles..

This Joven Bustamante is slowly but surely making a name for himself. He beat Alcano and then Luat but lost to Manalo in the next round.

The match between Manalo and Pagulayan should be exciting. IMHO, the winner of this match will probably face Orcullo in the finals. Manalo has been quiet for a long time after his impressive peformance in the IPT. To gauge how strong this field is, a player of Manalo's caliber was only seeded 7th in this tournament.

Actually, Lining is also in stroke. Manalo and Corteza had to beat four straight opponents today to advance to the final 6.

In most tourneys, you'll see a surprise here and there. But this final six is made up of some of the most battle-tested professional pool players in the world. Everyone there has won an international title at some point in their careers. All are veterans. Pagulayan, Corteza and Orcullo are the youngest at 28-29, in the prime of their careers. Gallego is a well-known professional in the Japanese circuit who has been ignored far too long in his home country. Same with Lining in the Asian circuit. Manalo's out to prove that money game mettle isn't what it takes to be a true pro.

Man, I can't wait to get up early tomorrow and watch the games.

So cuycuy, based on the performances you have seen so far, who do you think will face each other in the finals?
