Philippine Open March 27, 2009

I find it disturbing that there is unlikely to be even one US or European player with enough INTEGRITY to say: "Hold on, a man died so that I could earn this money".

But given that the WPA refuse to have principles then I shouldn't be surprised.

The front page has a story about this, saying that Ronnie Alcano, Dennis Orcullo and Warren Kiamco have spots in this tournament.

The tournament is organised by Yen Makabentas group and I have it from a 100% reliable source that Ronnie, Dennis and Warren are not going to play in this tournament

WPA still wants the players to take part in this, with the condition that they acknowledge Makabentas group. The players in BMPAP will not do that, since the Philippine Olympic Commite - the highest sports governing body in PI - do NOT recognice Makabentas group, the old BSCP.
Very strange that WPA chooses not to support the decision of the olympic commitee in the Philippines.

So here we go again, another tournament in PI - without any of the top players. Even two of the three top players who were in Makabentas group - Manalo and Gabica - have left ship. In addition to Ronnie, Dennis and Warren, players like Efren, Busta, Gomez, van Corteza - the list goes on - will not play.

I believe its time that the foreign players take a stand also. Yes, this is an internal affair in the PI, but the pool world is very small. In my opinion the top players from Europe, USA and other countries in Asia should start to reflect on whats going on - and not just go for a free ride in whatever tournament is coming up. By participating without involving themselves they just delay the unevitable.

In the meantime, their fellow pro players in the Philippines are taking all the heat and doing all the sacrifices by not participating and therefore giving up a possible lucrative payday.

Edwin Reyes - The SuperStars in the Phillipines won't let you down. They know you were murdered because you were the thorn that would not go away.

Your ideals will live on forever. Please forgive the foreign players who either know nothing of this dispute or who don't want to become embroiled in it. They would wish to come to the Philippines and post victories against the very players they look up to. If they can't play against those players then they have to still follow their career path and play in whatever tournaments are available.

Let us both hope that these players, and all who work under the promoter will get paid promptly this time for their performance.

Hear, hear, and the silence about it is deafening.

[You and your quotation marks on the inside of the period.] :o

These foreign players are also tied with WPA in their respective countries. If they don't play they might also be banned by WPA from paying in European or other tour recognized by WPA. No choice really.

I dont believe WPA can ban them unless they play in a non-sanctioned tournament which time-wise conflicts with the sanctioned one

WPA cannot force anyone to play if they prefer to stay home watering their roses that week.

the wheels of justice in the case of Edwin's murder is hardly moving here in the Philippines. My personal take on this matter is I refuse to patronize products of this people I suspect are involved in his murder.

the newly elected bscp president "mr. chua" called me up this evening and was dissapointed, mad and ordering me not to mingle with his actions... have told him that im not / i was just concern about the said players sudden action and warned them to "take extra care" and refrain from issueing statement that may hurt the other camp... it was a personal advice from me to them! again as arrogant as he is, he even accuse "perry" behind the killing of ER during said conversation.

since the burial of eds remains... i have not attended bmpap meetings/gatherings or meet with any officials/personalities within the group other than gandy valle (sec/director) he went to my shop for repairs
like sputnik I also felt beeing leaft in the cold by the group that we supported and fought for... perhaps everybody's affraid? perhaps still in shock / a month after ERs death?

Mr. Sebastian Chua, I hold you responsible for the killing of my friend Edwin R. Reyes! is it about the 100Million 2006-2008 NSA budget? or is it about your pride and self selfishnes?

nanliliit ako sa kayabangan mo!

Then the people behind ER's assassination have already succeeded. Obviously, it was meant to not only silence one of their critics, but also to send a message.

But who can blame them? It was a terrible crime that so far still goes unpunished. I'm aghast that I don't see any mention of it in the Philippine papers. And ERs a relatively high-profile person in a relatively high-profile activity, at least in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, I can't help but be a bit afraid for your own welfare -- obviously these are cold, heartless people and they do not take criticism lightly.
