Phillipines Open

I find this hard to believe.

Thorsten hasn't spend thousands getting to the Philippines for fun.
I don't think anyone from USA is spending "thousands" to get to the Phillipines.

Thorsten lives in NYC, and a round trip from New York to Phillipines is under a grand, and once you land, everything is dirt cheap due to the USD to Phillipines Peso conversion rate. Hotels should not be too expensive, even an Airbnb will do the trick.

thorsten lives of coaching in lucrative / high end areas.. i don't think money is an issue with him. lives in a nice home, etc. maybe sjm knows more.

many players are building / enhancing their brand playing tournaments. MC isn't be all end all..

The darkest of horses: Jaybee Sucal

Lol I'm kidding but I am looking forward to watching him play. That kid is lightning in a bottle.

My real dark horse is Bernie Regalario. I just want some new blood, I'm tired of seeing the same old champions over and over again. No offense to the reigning champ Alcaide.

Roda vs Orcollo will be a cool match to sweat in the next round.

Hoping Vogel goes deep as well.

7 Americans still in it! 8 if youtuber Jacob Parrent wins his match, currently hill-hill......... And he just lost.

7 Americans eliminated so far.

that went hill-hill?! i just zapped when i saw patric gonzales playing a noname. gonzales is a strong player, 800 ish

bergman won his first match lopsided, but so did his next opponent arseni, the runner up from last year.

i haven't seen arseni play very well since he switched to krause cues though.
To be fair, Arseni beat a Filipino and Bergman beat a European from North Macedonia. I'd give the edge to Arseni lol. Rooting for Bergman though.

Interesting first round eliminations:

- Bustamante (only interesting cause he beat Fedor last year)
- Pagulayan
- Neuhausen
- AJ Manas
- Lukas Fraccaso-Verner
- Max Eberle
- Corteza

You know what they all have in common?

Their opponents were all Filipino.

i remember watching povpool 10-15 years ago and edgie geronimo (that beat bustie) was a terror in the west coast events. haven't heard of him since.

i hope raga wins this, gets his visas and shit together and gets touring. too good not to

Lmao bro same! I was tuned into POVPOOL and remember when Edgie was getting all the hype and seemed to be hitting his prime. Not sure how his game is nowadays since I didn't watch the match.

I'll always remember that classic match between SVB and Orcollo at Hard Times. Whatever happened to Daniel Busch?

Neuhausen won the European Open this year, but he’s been very inconsistent. Some bad losses and early exits, including today. Definitely not consistent enough to be top 10 as the WNT rankings show. He has not done much else this year.

Stronger field than I expected. This event is fast becoming a showcase for all the unknown Filipino players who’ve got game.

Rodrigo Geronimo - Fargo 731
BEAT FRANCISCO BUSTAMANTE

Edwin Dela Cruz Gamas - Fargo 813
BEAT ALEX PAGULAYAN

Meynard Tipawan - Fargo 810
BEAT MORITZ NEWHAUSEN

Rommel Janael Santos - Fargo 774.
BEAT AJ MANAS

Saldy Galliguez - Fargo 563 (super low robustness)
BEAT LUKAS FRACASSO VERNER

Antonio Lining - Fargo 798
BEAT MAX EBERLE

Calil Ramber - Fargo 813
BET LEE VAN CORTEZA

daniel posted on here maybe a year or two ago. he's da O.G.

edgie, santos, oscar and bautista duked it out at the tail end of many of those tournaments

Team Europe vs Team Ex-Europe.

I hope Thorsten gets on the MC just to have some new (old? Old-new? New-old?) blood on the team. He'd be at least as good as any other option for the 4th/5th spots.
Hohmann is playing Chezka Centeno in the first round, he might get beaten by a girl.... hahaha

A lot of unknown Filipino players, will we get a new star?
Did you happen to see Meynard's win over Moritz? That guy is a serious player!

A nice hotel can be had for 100/nite. That includes the breakfast buffet.
