Phillippi Cues Opinions

I am currently considering a very nice coco Phillippi cue. Being on the Left Coast, don't see too many around here...I never have.

They appear to hold their value well, but how do they play? I know it's subjective, but I would still like some opinions. I am currently playing with a Skip Weston, and like the way they play very much...anyone with experience between the two?

I would like good, bad, or otherwise. Thanks in advance!

I've had 2 Phillipi cues, both were SWEET! and I wish I never sold them, but when your young and offered twice what you paid.........ugh....

Anyway, mine played like a Black Boar/Schon/Scruggs/Joss West, forward weighted, steel joint, Ivory ferrule, firm to stiff hit. The same scenario I've always loved, old school type cues. Probably on the other spectrum from a Southwest type hit if that helps you......Gerry

I am up in NW Washington, about 30 miles south of Bellingham. We do have a pool hall in Mt Vernon, but I do enjoy playing @ a couple of establishments that tend to cater more toward the 'pool' crowd. I am currently captaining a womens' league and 9 ball league teams out of a place called Cues-N-Brews in a little podunk town called Sedro Woolley....OLDDDDD logging town heading into the Cascade mountains proper. We're in the foothills.

Beautiful Country up there. I spent some time at Whidbey Island. Had a place near the Deception Pass Bridge. I used to win drinking money at the Oak Harbor Tavern, but that was about 35 years ago! lol

just more goit air!

Ah, yes...the good ol' OHT. :D
I spent about 10 years living on the 'rock'. It was that whole married to the Navy thing. I'm over in the Skagit Valley now...where they grow all the tulips and daffys. Not far from the 'rock' at all.
Yes, it is beautiful up here. That's what bummed me about the east coast...they just cut all the trees down and built up the sides of the mountains...well, what they call mountains anyways. ;)

i like the phillippis, but i think they have your standard "maryland" hit. can't explain it more than that other than to say, if you've ever played with a cue made by a maryland cuemaker, i think they all hit very similiar. it's like, they all belong to the same club.:):)

very thin grip. but i have to disagree about the value. i've seen a lot of phillippis online at cheap prices. very popular in kentucky, i understand.

The "Maryland hit" Hey, can I use that?:). I lived in S.E. Pa. only a couple hours from all those cue makers. BTW alot of them came out of the same shop I think.

yes, but i don't know which...

they all know each other

scruggs and phillippi are very nice people.

That is all I play with. Love Phillippi Cues and Rick is a pleasure to work with.

Between my father and I we have about 15 of their cues.

Perhaps the joss/ Scruggs/ Frey woods have some overlap, but Phillippi was never part of that, as far as I know.

Could be some industry chatter between them, no doubt.

Imo, Phillippi cues might be the best value for small maker cues.

Every one I've touched has been great and rick- the 2nd generation to run the shop- is good people fer sher.
