I have about 20 feet of the brown phonolic rod material that people use for ferrule tip combo. This rod is about 1-2 years old. My question is this. To install, do I just drill a hole to desired size and slip on and glue or should I drill and tap for threaded instalation.
Thanks,

Two thoughts BUG.

1. What Joey said.

2. How about making two ferrules, one threaded, one slip-on.
Try both and see which one YOU think is better.
Maybe even have some hard hitters smak a few with each.

Are you reffering to radial or flat?

On laminated shafts you might want to use a slip on method to eliminate the danger of breaking the tenon. But on regular maple I would always thread it on.

Chris, sounds like sound advise. Could you please clearify? Are your referring to the radial (pie shaped) lamminates wich tend to be hollow in the center or will that include the flat lamminates as well.

thanks, Jim.

I kinda have both. I have been making shafts that are laminate but when turned they become pie shaped. There is no hole down the middle like preditors. Each shaft has approx. 102 peices of wood it it. Its an awsome hitting cue. You would think that it would be to stiff but it isnt. it has a great firm hit. I think it has the makings to be the best break shaft ever made.

I agree with you pdcue, i will try both and have some hevey hitters hit with them. I have never installed the phonolic compound and just wanted some gereral info. Thanks.
