Would people pay for professional digital images of their cues? What I have in mind is a rolling studio/digital lab to shoot on site at various venues. The fee would be nominal assuming that the volume would be there.
So do you guys and gals think the volume would be sufficient?
The product would be a CD both of high resolution images and images sized for the web.

I would potentially pay for a picture of my cue. I would be more interested in obtaining a picture of myself playing or a cool team picture.
Or better yet, a picture of me playing with my cue!

Good points. I shot some pictures of friends playing while I was in college, and they were a hit. It would be easy to do those as well.
Thanks!

I think if you pursued this path, you should look at adding insurance documentation as well. Providing time stamped secure files for insurance/theft purposes would be the only reason I would ever photograph my cues. As we all know, the better the evidence in matters of law, the easier it is to recoup the loss.

If you did this and kept the records, I think you would have a chance of providing a service people would value. Just think of all the stolen cues that people don't have quality photos of...

Definitely something to think about. Thanks.

I would think more would prefer a large picture of their cue to hang on a wall but that would be more involved for you to deliver & hence more costly but could still be viable.

Depends on how large, really. It would be easy to create templates for adding detail shots to make it into standard photo sizes. Prints and shipping are fairly inexpensive these days...... a 20x30 of several cues or one cue would not be out of the question.

pretty low demand if you wanna get paid taking photos of anything. car enthusiasts barely want to pay money for pics of their cars!

I've shot a few car shows. The way we did it worked. We had a nice spot picked out where would shoot the cars as they rolled in and then direct the driver to his parking spot. We would set up our booth with a dye-sublimation printer and sell 8x10s during the chow. It was easy to make a grand in a day or a couple of days......
My current hobby and niche is rodeo photography and I don't print on site for several reasons.

i see what you're saying and i think i have a better understanding of your business plan. perhaps it would be good to set up a Billiards Booth to include an area for team/individual photos with their cues, and a separate area closed off for cues. then promote the booth during the event with sample 3x5's or 4x6's. i can imagine myself as a pool player during Vegas BCA and glancing down during a match to notice a glossy 4x6 flyer. do you also plan on obtaining customer contact info to email them the photos? it'll be cool if you have a big LCD TV to display a high res cue porn photo gallery too.

rodeo photography can be a lot trickier huh? there's wayyyy too many things to shoot! different events and cultures...foods...vendors..concerts...etc etc lol

i was just thinking a cross promo idea - i remember seeing a BCA wall similar to big charity/celebrity/etc events. make your own with vendors who may be willing to pay to have their name in the background (Simonis, Diamond, etc)

Great ideas; thanks!

I have no idea if I will do anything with this idea. Putting it out there makes it fair game for others, which I don't mind. I've learned it takes more than a camera to make something like this happen and the cream will rise to the top. Isn't that why we like a long race?

I do have an idea for a copy stand design specifically for shooting cues. Of course I won't go into details.

By the way, I used 4x6s instead of business cards at my last two rodeos........ follow the link in my sig to see my work on Facebook. It's a blend of fine art and action photography.

A man and his cue. would probably sell. I think a photo montage with him or his cue center stage might sell pretty well. If available in 16 X 20 he could hang it on the wall at home and give one to his girl friend. Could also hang in a rogue's gallery at his local hall.

At one time in my life I was a professional photographer. In addition to studio work I shot weddings on Saturdays. Seems to me that a roll (18 - 20 shots) from which a customer could select a set for a poster might sell pretty well.

It could also be a "a night of league play" with the whole team. Shooting individual shots of players and their cues along with team shots could make a few hundred dollars with a "proof" book and some exemplars of what others have selected.

When I was getting started I did a few free weddings to obtain demos and build a reputation. It only took a few and I had more business than I could handle.

It might be worth talking to a local room owner or two and making a couple for his room for free. Of course if you get the local "stars" involved it encourages others to get involved.

I can see this as a win-win for you and the local room owner. Just takes a little marketing to get it off the ground.

I would also do something to make your product unique. You can expect there will becopy cats so you need some sort of signature.
