Then have 126 spots and 2 wild cards. Simple and nobody can complain- they will, but....
It's their tournament, they get to set the rules. just because there are 128 spots, doesn't mean it has to go to the top 128 players.
It could be the top 124 players and 4 wild cards, or 120 spots and 8 wild cards. Just because there is 128 players that will be playing, doesn't necessarily equate to 128 open spots. It could be 120 or 124 open spots, and those are the open spots, not 128.
You are not screwing anybody, those are the open spots.
There is nothing that says they have to give those open spots to women even, they should be free to fill them however they desire to achieve their end goals.
The women's tour seems to be successful, and within reason, depending on location, allows most anyone to compete. Quite a few low 400 fargos, and even a 300 something fargo at one. Do they stand a chance, not on your life, most will never get past their first two matches, but there has been a few high 400's and low 500's make it past the first two days but then out.
They seem to have a system not totally ranked on fargo, but also how much you play their tournaments. So you could be a 700ish fargo, and still have to make it through the first two days of preliminary rounds, where a 600ish fargo rated player that plays all their tournaments gets to bypass the preliminary rounds. If it's only fargo as the factor as to who competes, is that fair? Sure it is, it's their tournament and their rules. People need to get over this thinking that a fargo rating is the only determining factor as to who plays, or as they say, put up and start your own tournament if you think you can do better.
There are so many tournaments now it really must be difficult for players to juggle what to attend.
I think their mistake here is just having one female player participate, would be nice to see more.
