I have a similar problem. My new I 14 reduced the size of my pic, which it posted but now it is blurry. It is in the test area and I mistakenly thought it would be fine. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Resize them or link them through an outside site using the URL. Each site has its own limits set.
Images are limited to about 1 megabyte. If the image size is reduced correctly, it will still be nice and sharp when posted here. A good way to get a smaller file size is to get the image on your laptop/desktop screen and to a screen grab. In Windows, that's shift-windows-S (for snip) and it goes onto your clip board so you can simply do a paste into your post.
For Apple stuff and phones, I have no idea.
As for posting a link, the very large problem with that is that the image behind the link is very likely to disappear. "Free" storage sites go away or start charging and files get cleaned up. There are lots of images that used to be in the funny pictures thread that are now gone because they were on some third-party site.

IPhone is pretty easy.

Because your phone takes super high quality pictures, which have millions of little dots (pixels) that create the image. Websites don't want users posting pictures that are huge and require more and more storage space, i.e. costs them more and more money, so websites limit the size of the images you post. Every device that you use employs a computer program to display an image, and that computer program provides the means for you to resize the image. If you reduce the size to around 800x600 pixels, you will get a pretty big image with average detail.
You will have to learn the necessary steps to resize an image for your device. By the way, any problem you have had with an electronic device, thousands of people have had the same problem before you, and they have posted tutorials and instructions online. It's up to you to figure out how to find those tutorials or instructions for your device. Or, you can pay any 10 year old kid $10, and they will show you what to do.

Or, the website will silently reduce the size of the file to what it likes to see. That may or may not be with loss of image quality depending on the original and how much reduction it needs. If FB doesn't complain about large pictures, I suspect they do on-the-fly image compression.
Edit: I just did a little test. I posted a 5MB picture to Facebook and then grabbed a copy of the image that got into the message. The image that FB kept was only 0.25MB. It looks pretty bad compared to the original.

I did some resizing today and it looks like I can post at 1.5 mb. Went on youtube. Problem was resized pics went to different place on the computer. Took awhile to find and post
