Kid,
Many thanks for the identification. I enjoyed your blogspot.

....My wife (who hates all things pool) was very impressed by ....

Other than being forced by her husband to take photos of pool players, how did your wife enjoy Taiwan ? Can she now eat peanuts with chopsticks ? Any close encounters with a herd of bicycles ?

Thanks for the photos Willie, they're very nice.

Obligatory action photo (though every tournament looks EXACTLY THE SAME)

Holy cripe, those pockets are buckets. I cannot believe people putting these tournaments together are still not figuring out that tight pocket tables like Diamond Pro's or very tight cut gold crowns are the conditions that pro level pool needs to be played on to help this pool gain some respect and future support and sponsership. These types of conditions make pool look like a joke.

On a positive note though, the actual venue looks first rate with the huge TV, the great location of a mall with multi-floor viewing areas, ect.... In alot of ways Asia is really doing this sport proud.

Dave,
As always, my wife spent weeks researching the culture and attractions of Taipei and Taiwan before visiting. I believe they have more registered motor scooters than any city on earth, somewhat hazardous. She does well with the chopsticks; but couldn't quite handle the chicken feet commonly served everywhere.

Celtic,
I think you will find that the WPBA tournaments here in the States have very nice and fairly difficult equipment.

The Taiwan tournament had a special wrinkle, not seen anywhere here in the U.S.: super-fast cloth. They use some kind of billiards cloth that is much faster even than Simonis 760; VERY difficult adaptation for the non-Asian players. I have heard that they do the same thing at tournaments in Japan.

Many think that it is done to give an advantage to the Asian players; and many players "complained" about it. Jeanette Lee, however, stated that, "everyone plays the same tables, so ADAPT". Good attitude for all competitors to emulate.

Great pics. What a beautiful looking place.

Kaz,
Actually Taiwan seems quite beautiful from the photo's I've seen (I only posted the semi-pool-related ones). The terrain is quite mountainous and lush in the interior; and lot's of incredible seascapes. Hopefully I'll get to visit eventually (though I may still pass on eating the chicken feet that are served about everywhere).
