Looks like a 5/16x14 to me....but could be 18. Pics can deceive,

But I am guessing you are asking about that shape as well. I don't know that it has a name but have seen that before, it is a proprietary Dufferin pin I believe.

I think this cue might be a conversion....
....I have sold hundreds of Dufferin sneaky petes....
....and they ALL fit flat at the joint....this one accommmodates a pilot.

...most are 14 thread....a few near the end were 18.

The earliest ones have the pin in the shaft

That's not a piloted joint. It's just that the hole for the pin was chamfered.

But in addition to that, there were piloted Dufferins anyway.

I am not 100% on this, but I do believe that is a proprietary Dufferin pin. They had several.

The shaft has got to go, too flimsy and 13mm
and I'd like to put a linen wrap on

If I can do those I'd be in love with it, all class

My only issue with the pin is finding another shaft with the same thread

Yeah. That's a pain.

You could have one made easily.

And I know a guy who just glued a pin into an aftermarket shaft on his own to get an extra shaft for his pin-in-shaft Dufferin. . Worked fine.

Same guy also glued a pin into the butt of another Dufferin in order to use standard aftermarket shafts. That worked fine too.

He was always messing with stuff like that but never put a tip on. LOL!

But honestly, if you really do like the cue, have it converted to a more mainstream joint.

If it's the Dufferin Phantom (what they used to call the sneaky pete) it has the pin on the shaft, and the insert in the butt. It's a 5/16-14 thread pin. Some of the sneakies came with aluminum inserts. Some had brass. It will fit a standard 5/16-14 if you run a tap through the threads in the insert. Or...better yet, get a repair guy to drill out the insert in the butt, dowel the hole, and install a pin in the butt.

Otherwise, have him retap the butt, and a standard pin will work fine.

Edit: just checked one of my Dufferins. It's the Grenadier, which uses the same pin as your sneaky, but opposite configuration. The butt has the pin, and the shaft has the aluminum insert. The pin is a standard 5/16-14. A Joss shaft fit on a standard 5/16-14 pin, and the Dufferin shaft fit on a standard Joss and Jacoby 5/16-14 pin. If you'd like pictures for comparison sake, let me know.

So to get another shaft that I like, do I have to buy from dufferin?

No.

Dufferin probably does not even make shafts for that anymore since their manufacturing moved overseas. I doubt they do any custom work anymore either.

If you want a good shaft, talk to the cue makers.

In fact I highly recommend that you post about this in the cue maker forum here and I am sure they will offer reasonable solutions. Many of them have lots of experience dealing with these Dufferin cues because they are so commonly used for conversions.

It really should not be a difficult or complicated problem. If you really like the cue there are some relatively easy solutions that would be worthwhile I think.

EDIT: You could contact Dufferin if you like. I am only guessing on a replacement shaft availability from them.
