Pin or collar which goes first into the forearm ?

If you use this kind of pin, does that mean that you have to install the joint collar first to the pin before you install the pin to the forearm

I like to install all of the rings 1st. That way, you don't get glue on the joint screw, when you put on the rings...JER

I don't know where you got that pin but I would not feel comfortable installing one that short. It doesn't look like the threads and locating barrel are more than an inch long and, if you have collars on the cue, creates a weak point at the base of the collar. I see a lot of cues break right at that point. I'm not saying it will break. I'm just saying that the chances increase with a shorter pin. Its something to keep in mind.

I may be wroung, but I think the locating barrel on this pin would go into the shaft. The way the long section is beveled. It looks like it was done to keep from having to use a bottoming tap. When installing the pin.

Anytime I install either a pin or a tenon, I want 1 1/2 times the length inside as I do outside. So, if my pin sticks out 1 inch, I want 1 1/2 inches inside of the cue.

I guess I assumed the barrel and flare would install into the forearm with the flare fitting into the champher. I could be wrong and that wouldn't be the first time.

It's probably a good time to ask this question so everyone's on the same page. Which end of this pin goes into the forearm?

The one end looks to have a 5/16x14 thread.
The other end looks to have a 3/8x10.
I don't know about the flange but it looks like it may complicate things (unnecessarily).
I hope you didn't buy the BIG box of these.

Illusion?

Am I not seeing things right? It looks to me that entire length of the pin is contacting the table. How can that be with the flange in the center?

It's there to prevent the Gorilla glue from foaming out.
Joey~Thinks a pin with two locators is a bad idea ~

Left side goes to the forearm. I am not sure if the photo shown on my post is the exact length of the pin, it could be longer, The threads on my cue looks different but the cuemaker mentioned that mine has the flange as shown on the photo. I was curious on how I can have the joint changed on my cue as it has that "Counter-sunk" section that prevents the new joint to be inserted, unless you have a very big hole, but that does not sound like a good idea.

I guess changing the joint is not an option at this point.

You give up too quickly.
If you want the joint changed on your cue, it can be very easily done.
Remove the pin, plug the hole and install whatever pin you like.
If you just want to change collar & rings, have at it. The pin's got nothing to do with it.

May I ask WHY you want to change the jnt.?

I'm still trying to get my head around the flange.
Joey's take makes about as much sense as any so far, even though I know he's just being Joey.
Doesn't anyone screen these pins?

We need to ask Hadji, what his thinking was in making that pin.
Joey~Right-clicked the picture ~
