Pink Ivory forearm?

Hi guys, would like your opinions on using pink ivory as a forearm. Heard good and bad eg its too stiff etc. Judd didn't think it was a good idea. Your thoughts?

Also what would go well with a cocobolo or purple heart handle?

Thanks!

Good old fassioned maple goes pretty well with purpleheart. If there is any curl or mottle to the purpleheart, curly maple. If not, birdseye maple. Contrast the shade of maple selected to the color depth of the purpleheart.

If you want pink ivory in the forearm, perhaps points. If you want close to that color as the forearm and it wasn't just the idea of using pink ivory, how about a bloodwood or redheart forearm?

Sorry, but answering your question about the possible pitfalls of using pink ivory as a forearm I can't really answer.

I have mostly heard people say they don't like the look of pink ivory forearms (or pink in general, for that matter) - too "girlie" I guess. I do know that Bill Stroud's personal playing cue for a few years was a pink ivory "box" style cue and he played pretty sporty with it. I'm working with a cue maker right now on a cue with a pink ivory forearm. I like the wood myself <== in a "manly" way, of course. :p :D

I agree with Kelly, a nicely figured maple handle looks good with purpleheart or coco. I have seen other cues that put together too strong colored woods (i.e. tulipwood and purpleheart) and to me they usually clash. Maple is neutral but still beautiful.

You girlie Maan... <== accent inserted here :p

I wouldn't drive a pink car, but I would have no problem shooting with a pink
ivory fronted cue. I might balk at inlayed flowers or other dainty images...

My playing cue has small french cut pink ivory diamonds inlayed in ebony points. I think pink ivory looks fantastic with ebony.

I assumed Judd's advice against was performance/construction driven and not aesthetics.

That's right. He said it would play too stiff. Costs more too. Wanted to know how you other guys who played with one thought

The closest I have hit with is a cue from a well respected maker that had an ebony front with spliced (I believe they were traditional splice) pink ivory points. I did not like the lack of feedback in that cue, and I attributed it to the ebony forearm, but it was certainly solid. Some ebony resonates better than others in my opinion.

Judd may not core forearms, and a solid pink ivory forearm may be very stiff indeed. Will said cue you want have points? Pink ivory points in the right forearm might be a good combination. You can ask Judd.

It'll be heavy for sure. With a purple handle, you are looking at more than 20 oz.
Judd does not core forearms. You can have him use it for points though.
And buttsleeve or inlays.

My .02!!!!!!

Ebony goes well with PI, as does figured purble heart, tulip wood, and maple. It will look great.

If you like the look of pink ivory and you like the hit of ebony go for it. Pink Ivory hits much like ebony.

Phantom,

PI is a very dense, stiff hitting wood. Every one that I've seen with it in the forearm was cored. It is not too expensive...about like ebony, but it is very tough to find a good piece with really good color....bold, semi-dark and consistent. So much that you see out there available for sale today has really light and washed-out color.

Sherm has some of the best looking PI that I've ever seen. Check out the thread below for some examples.
