The Planet-Pool 9-ball Tour will be at Bill & Billies Cuesport in Arnold, MD on October 23rd & 24th.
$2500 added, paying out 3/8ths of the field.

Open Event: Saturday & Sunday
Entry Fee
$60 for men 21 years of age & over
$45 for women & juniors entering the Open Event
Room opens Saturday at 10:00 for practice & registration
Player meeting held at noon - play begins immediately following.

Women's Event: Sunday only

This past Tuesday at Champions in Laurel, MD, it was like old-home week, and there were many regular Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour players in attendance, Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh, UPA Touring Pro Mike Davis, Young Gun Brandon Shuff, Amanda Page, Bob Harris, Mike Ricciardella and Keith. The buzz on the rail is that everybody is looking forward to this weekend, including me!

And I was looking forward to it too but I sucked so bad all week that I am not going. I wnt 2&out in a tornament for the first time since 19 Icantfuckinremember if I ever did before. So they cant get my $. Hope it is fun for you two.

Walter, dag nab it, didn't anybody ever tell you that when you fall of the horse, you need to dust yourself off and get back up on it again?

Instead of staying home and licking your wounds, give yourself a chance to shine. I saw you shoot in the Carolinas and Richmond, and I was beginning to think that you were one of Virginia's best-kept secrets.

I remember the hair standing up on the back of my neck when a fellow railbird whispered in my ear at the beginning of a semi-finals match in Richmond, "Your horse doesn't have to like it when he comes up against Walter."

If you can't make it, I hope to see you at the next one! Remember, though, that a triumph in Arnold is only 60 bucks away!

I must have got lucky when he missed a ball leading at 5-4 and never got up out of his chair . I saw in the brackets on AZZB that he beat me. OK then! Update!

Well, here's a small update on the Planet Pool 9-Ball tournament currently in progress at Bill and Billie's in Arnold, MD.

80-plus players came to the $2,500-added event. With only two more tournaments left in the current PP 9-Ball Tour season, Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh is the current points leader, with Mike Davis and Jim "Shorty" Henson trailing closely behind. A battle is brewing to take the top spot!

It was great to see Gerry Slivka make an appearance. The match of the night was between him and Mike Davis, and it came down to hill-hill with Gerry breaking the balls on the last game. He scratched, and Mike ran out for the win, knocking Gerry to the B side.

Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh and APA Champ Jim "Shorty" Henson played an exciting match, each hoping to knock the other to the B side. After it seesawed back and forth, Shorty and Ryan began to bark at each other, which provided some great entertainment for the railbirds. Ryan, however, ended up knocking Shorty in the losers' bracket when it was all said and done.

Always a crowd favorite, Pookie made his presence known and is also still on the winners' side. When we left last night, I had figured Pookie would engage in a little nightly game of stake, as he is wont to do. However, he said he's going home to rest and spend time with his 4-month-old bouncing baby boy, a much different Pookie than recently seen in Norfolk at the Scott Frost and Pookie marathon match which lasted over a week. BTW, Scott Frost won that session 5 days AFTER the conclusion of the U.S. Open. Talk about endurance. Whew!

Other players who showed up were Young Gun Brandon Shuff, Veterans Billy Stephens, Jimmy Mack, Ed Gast, Wayne Collins, and Kevin West. It was great to see 10-year-old Tyler who traveled 6 hours to play in this tournament. The first time I met Tyler was in Richmond. He plays with a Black Boar cue and was running balls on a snooker table. This is one kid to watch in the future.

Keith McCready will play his good friend and adversary on a field of green, Ryan McCreesh, at 12:00 noon, Sunday. The ladies event will begin at 12:00 noon on Sunday.

This pool room, Bill and Billie's, is pretty cool. They have two well-maintained snooker tables, and because there are so many 9-footers in the room, the tournament ran smoothly with very little wait time between matches. The place was packed yesterday. I saw Timmy Scruggs make a cameo appearance, sweating a few matches, and Philippi was on hand providing cue repairs.

What a great weekend for pool!

Wow! What a great week in the record books for pool: Kim snatches a big win in Albuquerque, the Korean Dragon is crowned the new Florida State 9-Ball Champ, Kid Delicious wins big on the Joss Tour in Connecticut, Amar Kang rises to the top in a strong field in San Francisco, and Mike Davis manages to win the PP 9-Ball event after a hard-fought battle with power-breaker Gerry Slivka in the finals. And I'm still eagerly awaiting to hear the results of the World Pool League in Europe where Rodney "The Rocket" Morris is currently engaged in a heavy battle with the many of the world's best players!

The PP 9-Ball tournaments happen on weekends, with the 2-day Open event occuring on Saturday and Sunday, and a one-day Ladies event taking place on Sunday.

This weekend, Linda (Haywood) Shea won $400 for her efforts in the ladies tourney. I remember Linda used to be the Maryland State Champ year after year about 20 years ago or more, and there weren't too many girls who could beat her in my neck of the woods. She has since married and has a lovely little 3-year-old girl, a real sweetie, and to see her shine again in the winners circle with brilliant play, I might add, was nothing but awe-inspiring.

The Open event enjoyed an 85-player field. There were many hill-hill matches, and it was anybody's guess as to who would win. On Sunday morning, Keith McCready managed to beat Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh, knocking him to the B side, but then faced a determined Pookie who was accompanied by his lovely wife on Sunday. Pookie ran a 5-pack on Keith and kept him benched pretty much during the early part of the match, and after a few back-and-forths, Pookie surged forward ending up in third place for his efforts. It was great to see Virginia Veteran Billy Stephens in good form, who placed fourth in the tourney.

The feature match had to have been the finals between Gerry Slivka and Mike Davis. Gerry Slivka is known for his power break. Mike Davis was in the hot seat and had to wait for a few matches to play out before he got to the table in the double-elimination finals. Mike came to the table cold, but did inch out ahead of Gerry in the beginning of the match, 6 to 3 in a race to 9, but Gerry managed to get a few good rolls on the break, making the 9-ball once and a couple of 9-ball combos mid match, allowing him to win the first set after an exciting hill-hill showdown. Davis never gave up, though, and ended up not only winning the tournament, but he has edged out in front of the Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh by less than a hundred points to be the current points leader. Only two more tourneys left this season. Will Mike be the points leader once more, or will the Genie Man seek his revenge? Time will tell, and it was another great weekend on the PP 9-Ball Tour!

BTW, it is nice to read that Young Gun Amar Kang won the Pechauer tournament at Family Billiards in California. He was MIA at the U.S. Open this year, and maybe this victory will keep the youngster out of those California card rooms and let him shine a few more times on a field of green. I hope to see him at the Derby in January 2005.
