I don't get around to the tournaments anymore so I don't know the answer here. Years ago a good road player could play ALL the pool games well and some could play top speed in 3 cushion also. Wouldn't it be to a pro's advantage to play 8,9, 10-ball well, along with 1-hole, 14.1, and banks?

Seems to me they could almost always find a tournament to play in. Johnnyt

I think you're right Johnny. I think any student of the game knows that knowledge from one game increases one's skill in another game. Players that stick to one game are entitled to do so, but all around players impress me more.

In my developemental pool years I played; Bar box 8-Ball, Bar box last pocked 8-Ball, Snooker (full rack), 3-Cushion billiards, Straight Rail Billiards, Big table last pocket 8-Ball, Big table 9-Ball, and Big table pill-pool.

Since those years ended, all I ever seem to play is 9-Ball. Mostly because that is the most prominent tournament game (I don't play in bars).

My point is, I used to be proficient at all the above games; however the environment has dictated that I can be most competative at 9-Ball.

Look what Ronnie Osullivan can do with Snooker and Pool.

also what about Mike Massey(looked pretty good playing 3C)

I too grew up playing many different games...8 and 9 ball, 14.1, bank, Cribs and rotation. My boys are getting semi-seriously involved with pool now and I encourage them to play all the games as well. When we get together, we play last pocket bank 8ball for starters. Then some 3-man rotation. Ususally end up playing 1P and Bank to fill out the evening. I am glad to see my boys learning all of these games. They have definitely improved their league play. Too bad nobody else in town wants to play anything but 8 or 9-ball. Can't find a 1P or Bank game at all.
