Played snooker today on a full size brunswick balke and collander today and got a few questions. Forgive me if theyre dumb questions but snooker aint exactly huge in Texas

can u combo one red into another ? or billiard or carom off of one into another?

can u make a red off of a colored ball in order to break up a cluster?

What about slop? If i break up a cluster and a red or a colored falls into an unintended pocket does it stay down and/or does is count?

If your opponent scratches is it ball in hand within the D or anywhere on the table?

if I make a red or a colored and scratch afterward does it come up or stay down.

Thanks for your help

D

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. When shooting a red, any slopped red counts for you. When shooting a colour, only the nominated colour counts if it is slopped. For example if you shoot at the black, miss badly and knock in the yellow it's a foul. On the other hand if you miss the black and it goes 9 rails into the side pocket it's fine.

4. BIH in the D.

5. Red stays down, colours get respotted at all times on a foul.

Texas,

Your questions were well answered by Cameron - here are a few more
FYIs that might help illustrate the "spirit" of Snooker vs Pool.

The most basic is you always have to make first contact with the "ball on".

The reds, as a group, are always the "ball on" at the start of your inning,
if there are any reds remaining.

You don't call shots in Snooker - any ball can be potted<pocketed>
in any manner, however, potting any ball OTHER than the "ball on" is
a foul. So, you can make more than one red at a time, but if you pocket
any ball other than the color you have designated as "on", that is a foul.

Reds are never spotted - colors always are, except when all reds are down
and the colors are taken off in order.

With BIH<in the "D"> you can shoot a ball anywhere on the table, even
inside the "D" - this used to be a big difference from pool when BIH
was only behind the headstring - and you could only shoot at balls
outside the headstring.

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear you are playing Snooker
in America<well, Texas>.
Are you playing on an English or American style table?

If American, is it 6 x 12 or 5 x 10?

How about let's get a great snooker room going once again here in the USA. Surely the heart of America (Greenfield, MO ;) ) would be the ideal setting for such a room. Perhaps someone with deep pockets would be interested in investing in such a dream room.

I would offer myself as one devoted customer. :)

I have no answers, but I have a question...

Where did you find a 6x12 snooker table in Texas? Hopefully in or near the Dallas area?

I haven't played any snooker (or pool) in years but am going to get back in it. My 13-yr-old son is expressing interest.

Find yourself a printed copy of the rules if you are going to continue to play, because as you say there may not be a lot of people where you are that are familiar with the rules.

There are a couple of "obscure" rules that even a lot of regular players don't run into all that often. (When you can do a "lift" and when you can play a ball as a different colour after a foul for instance).

Enjoy the grace of the game and have fun with it.

Str8PoolMan: have you contacted kbowmandc or shootsnook here at the forum. They live near Allen, Tx and play snooker a couple times a week on a 10 footer. They were looking hard to find a 12 footer in the Dallas area, but haven't found one yet.

Bogies is supposed to be closed but will re-open next week with its 12 footer.
