With all the talk of the bigger table since TAR 20, I figured i'd talk a little bit about it.

It's a snooker table, although it's got pretty generous pockets (at least as snooker tables in michigan go, seems like most are modified for golf). And it really isn't that big of a difference from the 9x4.5 (I had to wait a little while to get on the table, so we grabbed the diamond 9' to play a couple of games to get our strokes in, and it wasn't too different, feel wise). I think i'd enjoy it even more if it didn't have snooker pockets though, if diamond (or somebody) started selling limited ed. 5x10's, i'd be begging every room i shoot at to get one. They're a riot to shoot on, you've got to really let your stroke out to make your outs and you don't get that feeling, ever, that someone is 'out' after the break, which is always a nice feeling. Do it diamond! Make pool more challenging!

Some years ago I played at Plush Pockets. Do they still hold weekly tournaments?

Would you have a chance to take a picture of the snooker table and post it here or in the snooker forum?

lastminutepanic...Snooker tables are not "modified" for golf. Golf is just a game played on a snooker table. There are no modifications made to the table. Is Plush Pockets in Lansing?

What are you talking about? Some places have indeed had their snooker tables modified with far tighter pockets then a standard snooker table for the expressed reason to have the table used for golf. Modified snooker tables when used for golf can have pockets with ridiculously small pocket openings that play more like a Pyramid table. Those tables make a Riley Professional table in England look like it has buckets and you would not really even want to play snooker on one.

Celtic...Perhaps you have seen this, but it is the exception, not the rule.

Plush pockets is in warren, and if you don't think there are modified snooker tables, go to Hall of fame billiards in warren and play on their 12fter. The pockets are literally 1 1/8th balls wide. It's impossible to make a shot into the corner down the rail, even if you're just cueing the OB, it'll rattle out. Hilton rd billiards in detroit has a rather tight 12fter too, but not quite as humbling as HOF's (HOF's also has pretty worn cloth, and has black marks on the cloth where the napping has been worn off from people marking their position in golf). I'm surprised you haven't made your way to Hall of fame or plush pockets, it's where the better players in detroit seem to play their weekly tournaments. (adam smith is the house pro at plush pockets, at least last i heard).

I'm about 1 3/4 hours north of there, I just happened to have some business down in detroit so I ended up near there. Hopefully i'll be down there sometime soon though. I was thinking of going to pockets in lansing sometime soon as well, they have a 12fter and a billiards table that i enjoy shooting on, i'll start taking pics of the places i go to shoot though. I'm new here, didn't even think to share some of the rooms i've visited.

lastminutepanic...I don't doubt what you say. I still say those are the exceptions, not the rule. Those rooms are a couple hour drive for me, and when I go to Detroit, it is almost always to teach. I've been to HOF, but never played on the snooker table.

I played on a 5 x 10 converted billiard table at the IBM Country Club in Johnson City, NY about twenty years ago. They had two of them at the time, don't know if they are still there or not. Playing 9 ball, I missed some, as usual, but almost never got out of line. I'd love to play Straight Pool on one. I've played Snooker on both 5 x 10 and 6 x 12.

ive heard that plush charges more to play on their diamond ????. and theres a 5x10 at hall of fame as well but i think its cut as a snooker table

They didn't charge us more, and honestly, if they did, i'd have laughed, the felt is in pretty poor shape, it's got a 1" white line from the left hand break spot to the rack spot, it's been ran hard, that's for sure. I just wanted to shoot on it for once, i usually just grab one of their 9'ers, the diamond table isn't that much different/better imo. And yeah, HOF has a 10' snooker table too, never played on it, the pockets look a bit bigger than their 12' table though, that's just from walking by it, i couldn't tell you how it plays.

I've always found 5 x 10 tables to be relatively easy for 14.1 but harder for 9 ball. My high run on a 9' table is 122 balls, on a 10' table it's 97 balls. in 9 ball however, I've run a 6 pack and a few 5 packs on a 9' table but on the 10' table I don't think I've ever had a 2 pack.
