Last week a kid named Danny S. who said he was from toledo ohio came through a small 9ball tourney here in central illinois. Played preatty good and sported a VERY large wad of cash obviously intent on gamblin it up. He was travelling with Rachel Abbink. He ended up 3rd in the tourney(preatty strong field and race to 4 makes it a coin flip). She had signed up but then backed out when she found out women dont get a handicap and complained that there were too many "pros" in the field. Any more info on this kid would be appreciated. My friend almost had a game but then got knocked by a "pro" from chicago.

Does anyone else find it ironic that shag_fu first asks for information on a road player, then complains that his friend was "knocked"? :D :D

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people looking for info on a player on the internet, but by doing so, you get no sympathy for ever being knocked... I woud go so far to say that the reason that a lot of the top women players are so good is because if the entry fee is reasonable, they'll play with the big boys too, if they can..

And if that is true abut Rachel, she needs to grow a pair of nuts. If I EVER came up on a weekly tournament that had a buch of names in it, I'm gonna be in it just for the chance to send one or two home!

Russ,
THAT is a great attitude! I like that "warrior" mindset if you plan on competing. As far as Abbink...I'm sure she didn't mind when it was the other way around, when she snuck up on lesser players who she knew had not shot against her for the cash in the various bars she hustles money out of. Sort of like a town bully who made his name beating up kids with Oxi-5 & 7th grade homework papers in their pocket. I always admired the player who didn't WANT a spot but rather GAVE spots.

What town was this tourney in? Who were the "pros" Rachel spoke of? Who was the "pro" from Chicago? Who was your friend?

The tourney entry is only 15, its race to 4 9ball in bloomington IL. It been an open tournament ever since it started 20yrs ago. I already have an idea of the kids speed, I was lookin for other info. He was headed to the quad cities(IL) but wouldnt play Jesse even though he offered the 6..I think it was the 6. My friend asked for the 7 and alternate breaks. The only real pro I could think of that was there was chad vilmont. Im not out to knock the kids action by runnin around tellin people not to play him or how they should play, I just wanted a little more info. I was gonna play some cheap 1hole with him but he was still in the tourney so I found another game. Dogginda9: Tourney is at Ride The Nine in Bloomington, IL. I think she was reffering to Chad and 1 or 2 other guys. Come down and play, you can meet the pro, my friend, maybe Danny will show up on the way home, you never now.

Met Rachel a couple months ago - she's got some nuts, not the hugest, but I'd say she's got a pair. Figuratively speaking, of course.
The night she was here was HILARIOUS, she matched up with a local girl (good friend of mine) who plays pretty decent - Bink was a bit tipsy and I don't think I should finish the rest of the story... :)

Danny Smith, hell of a nice kid and will have a friendly game $$$ win lose or draw he is a stand up kid!! He is tough to beat some days and other days his head is a little out of sync with his heart...

He is ok to match up with, and doesn't shoot air barrells. The young breed of road players is strting to look up, and poker isn't the attraction it seems to have been just 2 or 3 years ago!! Racheal is another of the more entertaining players that may just croos paths in a rooom anywhere in the us!!

First ...

A race to 4 is a joke, and players less than the best can win that. I don't believe Chad is a pro, more like semi-pro, and I have played him before.

Any decent shooting woman that wouldn't take a shot in a race to 4 tournament isn't good enough anyway. Most women players are overrated anyway as a player, but not as a woman player. Every woman 'pro' level player I have played won't play me without the 7 and the break in recent years. There is a new generation of women players in the works, mostly Asian (except Jasmin), that are going to be good.

Am I seeing it the wrong way? she didn't play because the field was too strong for $15!?.....how could you turn down playing "Pro" players short races for $15?...who does she think she is....Allison Fisher?:D

Thanks for the response shag_fu. Been to that tournament many times on Monday nights. At times, it is as tough a $15 weekly tournament as you can find.

This was what I was looking for as far as info. Daytona doesnt really let on about his speed, just says simply you will have to play good to win and he is an honest player. I wasnt looking to trap him I just wanted to know a little more about. Thats why I waited a week to ask. And yes race to 4 can be a joke, but for the caliber of players that this tournament draws, its the toughest 15 dollars you can find. I did here he got stuck for quite a bit in peoria, maybe someone else can fill in the blanks.
