Player of Month

Here's who I think are players of month (POM) for 2015. I would call them Flavors of month cos with so many high level players nowadays compared to few decades ago, it is rare to have a player be Player of month for few months
I based it on prestige / quality of tourney won (at least $10K winner prize) for that month. There are some months without any POM as there are no big enough tourneys.
Efren did win a 1P tourney but that was invitational and there were also not many other significant tourneys that month.

Tourneys won are listed after name of player.
Jan- Alex (DCC Master of table)
Feb- Ko Pin Yi (W10B)
March-NA
April -Dennis (SBE)
May-NA
Jun-NA
Jul-Thorsten World 14.1 +USO 7ft 10 ball) over Albin Ouschan (China Open)
Aug- Jayson (Turning Stone)

For August 2015, it is between Jayson (Turning Stone) and Shane (World Pool Mssters) with Bergman behind. Bergman won Smoking Aces+ took down Dennis 4 matches in a row. Even though World Pool Master is more well known than TS, it is an invitational with 16 field and single elimination while TS has bigger 128 field with many notable names and is double elimination. The Fargo rating for top 16 of World Pool Master is about same as top 16 of TS
On that basis , I rate Jayson over Shane as Player of Month for August 2015
What do you think ?

Mostly agreed, although there are a couple months you left blank where Bergman would be my top choice.

I think Alex should show up in one of those empty months...
...he won the New Orleans one pocket and the challenge match with Scott Frost.

Plus Alex won the Big Tymes event (he won the main event and split the one pocket with JJ) in Houston the next week after the New Orleans one pocket and before he played Frost.
Alex was on fire that month

Exactly. Alex takes May for sure.

In Europe I would say it is Joshua Filler rt now. He played the finals of the latest Eurotour, and lost to Niels. But then he won back to back two Longoni Open events in the Netherlands and Germany with a Superstar filled field, and defeating Niels in the KO stages of the German Event. He finished 5th in the World Tournament 14.1 beating Jayson and others along the way. I would give him and Jayson August.

This is a great thread idea, and one you should make at the end of every month.

For August, The two players would be Shane for winning the world pool masters (2nd year in a row) and coming in 3rd at Turning Stone classic 24....And Jayson Shaw for running undefeated through 128 player field to win Turning Stone 24 (for the third event in a row).

If I had the time, I'd break down the list of opponents Shane defeated during both tournaments, and compare to the list of opponents Shane defeated. My gut tells me they'd come even in difficulty. With Shaw beating Shane as the decider.

So I'm going with Shaw as player of the month August 2015.

For Turning Stone, I'd have to go with Dechaine. Going through the entire B-side undefeated is a bigger accomplishment imo

You have a really good point. Dechaine lost his first match on Thursday night to Luc Salvas, and played far more matches to get to the finals than Shaw did.

We should list the opponents and scores for each, and see where it levels out.

It wasn't Shaw's fault that they had no more opponents for him...
....not losing a match is hard to beat.
Dechaine gets the gold star, Shaw gets the trophy.....and rightfully so.

Also, it's hard to argue when Shaw beat dechaine and Shaw beat Shane, who went on to lose to dechaine.

Yes, Shaw comes out on top no matter how the equation is calculated (JS v MD or JS v SVB = JS > SVB + MD).

I wish my math teacher used these equations to solve for x in high school.

My bad that's a proportion. Haha get it?! PROportion.... PT109 WHERE YA AT?!

I think I would have to give it to Shane...

That's only because of how well he did in Turning stone (especially considering the rolls Jayson got on his way to his win against Shane in the hotseat match) on top of winning the world pool masters for the second year in a row...

Of course Jayson took down turning stone for the third year in a row as well... so it should probably be a toss up, but man some of those rolls were sick and I think played a major factor in Shane's mental game in the next match against Dechaine.

We have our own players of the month here in the Queen city of the Ozarks, and not necessarily because of his, or her, prowess in playing pool.
For instance, a few days ago we all voted to give player of the month honors to Frank Hazelnut, who went eight and out in a game of One Pocket. By eight and out I mean he ran eight balls, then walked out the door and never came back. Because no one liked the s.o.b. he was our unanimous choice.
This month's chosen player will probably go to little Cathy Edelbrooke, for her contributions both in, and out, of the parking lot, if you know what I mean. :)

Updated

Updated player of month (POM) for 2015 based on feedback. I would call them Flavors of month since it is so hard to remain top and win more than 1 POM in such extremely competitive field these days.
LOL
March and June did not have big tourneys >$10K winner cheque so based it on less than $10K tourneys

Tourneys won are listed after name of player.
