I have come up with this scale for fun and please add or take away as you wish.

Thank you and have fun,

Mr. J.

1) Recreational Player... just goes to the bar or pool hall once in a while and grabs a house cue off the wall and has some fun with pool now and then. This player may owe a cue.

2) League Player... This player definately owns a cue. They will play on a team and possibly play on several leagues. They sometimes will play in 5 dollar to 20 dollar nightly or weekly tourneys. Also they may enter in a local or regional big event.

3) League Champs... This player is among the best in the Leagues. They are the ones who are most respected in league competition. Like the above players, they will have a job and go to work. More than likely has always had a job and has really developed their game. They are always in the money in the nightlys or weeklys and sometimes in the money in the big local and regional events. Possibly a little gambling too.

4) Regional Champs... This player may or may not have job. However they tend to stay close to home and may wonder within a couple of states for pool. These players are Always in the cash and may gamble a bit too. They are the ones who Win the nightlys and weeklys and they also Win the Regional and Local events. Definately the Best of your area.

5) Road Players... This player plays pool for a living. No Job, pool is their job. They gamble alot and are always in the cash in one way or another. They travel all over the country regularly looking for a game or tournament. This player is among the best in the country. May also play in pro events.

6) Pro Tour Player... This player is always at all the Big events. They are the National Champions of the game. Their caliber of play is excellent. Pro tour stops and world events are their place.

7) World Class... These players are the best of the best in the World. Johnny Archer, Efren Reyes, Earl Strickland, Ralf Souquet, Mr. Hohmann , Nick Varner and all the other World Champions. These are the ones who WIN the pro events and world championships.

There has been some revisions to this scale on page 2 to help guide you further in your standing...have fun...

Mr. J. :-)

IMNSHO, this is a great scale.

Fred <~~~ 3.5 - 3.8

I like the rating system. There was a time, pre-marriage and pre-kids, I thought I was on my way to something, but hey something had to give and it was my game.

In an effort to be honest I'm probably somewhere between a 2 and 3.

What about a class for "Tournament Players"? You know, players not really interested in leagues but travel to play in tournaments.

Actually, this scale isn't too bad but it's extremely subjective. The professional players in New York City typically play in the leagues, weeklys, nightlys, regionals, etc. We see them ALL THE TIME so I'm constantly reminded of my place on the totum pole. I'd like to say I'm one of the stronger players in my league but there are just too many professionals to even ponder such thoughts. I have done well in some weeklys but only when I've been unemployed since (at least in New York) those things go on through the night. Regional events (Tri-State Tour Open, Joss Tour) have been good for me and I'm just beginning to cash in them (or fall just out of the money).

I'll say slightly above 3 (ever so slightly). I need my day job and that will never change!

I'm a 2 for now. If I can ever get the consistence and my head correct I could easily be a 3.

I suppose you will have to evaluate where you finish in these tourneys and then that will tell you where you are at...do you get in the money or win them??? Tournament play is addressed in the descriptions...

Thanks you,

Mr. J.

My thoughts also. According to this scale, I'd be a 1 since I despise leagues.

I do too, so I substituted "league" with "tournament"

I play in a league anyways only because all BCA league members get free pool and HH prices Sun-Thur. As much as I play, that saves me a ton.

Man the Truth is a hard pill!

Boy...It seems to me there should be a strong description for say a 2.5-2.75 player! LOL...but truth be told, I'm a Rock Solid 2!...I have really nice gear though! :D

Well okay, if I substitue "league" with "tournament", I'm a 2. I do play in leagues, but I'd much rather play in tournaments.

In that case I'd be a 2.89. Sounds good huh?!?!? Man, free pool ain't worth me playing in another league.

Try an unhandicapped league sometime, you might be surprised. I know I was.

It wasn't the rules, it was the people and the places you play at.

Somwhere in the 4's .....

I'd say I'm a combination of numbers 1 thru 5. I wish I could act like 4/5 more often than I get to but sometimes life gets in the way. On any given night I am 1,2 and 3 because I just love pool that much. When time allows though, 5 isn't that far out there. ;)

hmmm. i guess i would technically be a 4 at the moment. i'm not the best in my area yet, but i don't have a job, usually in the cash in some way, shape, or form.
